Phil's P.O.V.

Jay was fast asleep against Dan, a blanket covering almost all of her so no one could see anything of her. Dan was still bouncing his knee a little bit to keep her asleep, but he was twisting his ring around his finger at the same time, telling me that he was a little bit nervous and I gave him a reassuring smile on occasion.

I was leaned up against my mum, as I hadn't seen her or dad in close to a year and it was nice to be next to them again, especially after what had been happening over the past year or so. It honestly felt like a lot longer than a year since we had met Jay, but there it was. Just a year.

It didn't take long for everyone to get comfortable and were laughing and joking together just like the old times, although we were a little quieter than usual as Jay was still asleep. Dan had adjusted his position on occasion to stop Jay's head slipping off his lap, as it seemed to be doing that quite a lot.

Around 10 o'clock Dan started to drop off, and because no one was planning to stay up for new years, I suggested going to bed.

"Do you guys want to go to bed? Dan's dropping off over there." Dan's parents stood up and went over to him, whispering something to him before nodding a goodbye to me and my parents.

"We'll see you tomorrow okay, happy new years by the way." I nodded to them before turning to Dan, where he was leaning on his arm and pretty much asleep. His eyes were still cracked open a little, but he might as well have been asleep because he wasn't going to hear anything I said.

I turned to my parents.

"I'm gonna get these two up to bed if you guys want to go to bed." My parents stood up and my mum reached out for a hug, which I gave her.

"Goodnight little lion."

I felt a hand creep gently up my chest and I turned my head, opening my eyes and looking down. Dan was curled up into me and was moving his hand up and down my chest, tracing little patterns onto my skin and flickering his eyes closed, still looking very tired.

"Mornin' bear." He looked up at me when I spoke, his eyes finding mine and his arms going around my shoulders at once.

"Mornin'." He managed to mumble out before closing his eyes again and burying his head in my chest.

"It's 2019 now, wow." He mumbled something again before finally raising his head to where I could understand him.

"Yeah. It's weird, but it's not really different to any other new year." I placed one finger under his chin, making sure he was looking me in the eyes.

"Are you sure Dan? Cause in the space of a year, we've now got a family." He smiled, lowering his eyes a little.

"I guess, yeah."

"Come on, I'll get up and check on Jay okay and then we'll go downstairs." He nodded, pushing himself up into a sitting position and sliding his feet off the bed and onto the floor.

I did the same, instead going straight for the door and into Jay's room. Her light was on and she was definitely awake, lying on her side on her bed with a pillow under her stomach, a book in hand. She looked up when she saw me coming in and waved a little with her spare hand.

"Mornin' Phil." I nodded to her, smiling.

"Morning Jay, you okay?" She nodded.

"Sore but okay, tired as well." I sat down on the side of her bed and glanced over at her book, Harry Potter again. She had taken to reading them over and over, despite having so many other books to read, but I think it was just to improve her reading.

"Do you want to come downstairs? I think we're going to start making breakfast soon." She smiled and nodded.

"Give me a few minutes and I'll be down." I headed back into Dan and I's room, where he was now dressed with his phone in hand, attempting to tame his wild mane of hair.

"Jay's awake, she'll be down in a few minutes." He nodded and wrapped his arms around me, burying his face in my neck. I smiled, it was going to be one of those days that he just wanted to cuddle and nothing more, so it was going to be difficult to do anything.

"Let me get dressed okay and then we'll go downstairs."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Phil! Oh my god!" He spluttering, looking up at me with puppy dog eyes. Most of his clothing and the majority of his face and hair were covered in light green paint, the paintbrush in my hand doing most of that.

We were painting the room for Phoenix so we could start moving furniture into it, which was all currently stored in the garage in boxes and containers. Dan's parents had gone home a week earlier, the end of the first week in January, and my parents had gone home just the day before, but not before leaving a pile of clothes and supplies for the new baby.

We had just finished painting everything and had been starting to pack up the paint before I had decided to swipe my paintbrush across his shirt, and it started a paint war between us. Both of us had paint all over our clothes but I had decided to take it a step further, wiping paint across his face.

He poked me with his brush in my side.

"I hate you, you asshole!" I knew he was joking, he was smiling as he said it and trying to hit me with his paintbrush at the same time.

"You know you love me Dan." He sighed, pulling his t-shirt over his head and attempting to wipe his face with the inside of the item of clothing, where it wasn't covered in paint.

I did the same, wiping my face with the inside of my shirt once I had pulled it off and then wiped down my arms, realising at once that both Dan and I were going to have to go and have a shower. The paint was sticking to arms and every part of skin it could get too, but now it was drying and it would take a while to get off.

"This is going to take forever to get off, let's go and have a shower now before the paint dries completely." Dan nodded, wiping his face again with his t-shirt.

"Alright, I'll just go and tell Jay." He disappeared around the doorway and I pushed the paint into a corner, putting the lid on and stacking the paintbrushes on top of the can.

I yawned, it was well past 5 and Dan and I had been painting since 10 in the morning, with an hours break around noon for lunch and a bit of rest. Jay had spent most of the day with Anais, she had come around before lunch and had gone home about an hour ago, and the rest of the time practising her reading and writing.

It kept her entertained for the day and stopped her going mad with boredom, as there wasn't much otherwise that she could do. She could hardly go up or down the stairs anymore and spent most of her time in the living room, wandering around when she could, but as it tired her quickly she couldn't do it for long.

I was just finishing packing up when I heard a yell of panic from downstairs, and my head immediately went to the door.

"PHIL! Jay's water broke! We need to get to the hospital NOW!"
