I'm nervous.

Anxiety pulls at the pit of my stomach, burning every outlet; but it's not for the swim meet. No, it's not for the swim meet that's about to begin in a couple of minutes, the stress of swimming 300m, no. My stomach churns with emotions, with little jitters exploding every few seconds. I don't know to explain it.

I know exactly where's it's coming from, but I just refuse to say it.

Erin and Julian are going on their first date today.

Fuck, I said it.

He doesn't like you, he doesn't like you, so why do you care?

I bite my tongue, shaking the miserable thought out of my head as I concentrate. I didn't want to have another Julian moment that happened the other time. I need to really focus, this solely determines if we're in regionals.

Snap out of it, Francena.

"In your positions," the referee announces, causing me to strip away from the lasts of my stretches and make way over to the diving plate. I walk up the steps, standing tall as I inhale sharply and exhale. Asthma don't fuck this up for me today.

"On your marks," the referee begins as I start shifting into my footing, "get set," I pull down my goggles, "go!"

I dive in.

"You did it!" The words collided in my eardrums as I let out a gasp for air, gripping around the floor ground. I had to get myself out of the water, and with the help of Jaycee's hand, she helped pulled me out of the chlorine water with no issues. "You made first!"

"Thanks," I choked; my diving wasn't as great as it could've been in the beginning, with the wrong angle, I choked on the beginning start with water. I finished well, but the water still hung in the back of my throat, tirelessly as I gasp for air. "You saw my start, right? Bad."
