Summary: Not to get all Twilight about it, but Jade's roommate is definitely a vampire. Carmilla AU.

Rewind: Jade's first roommate leaves.

Maybe that's putting it mildly. Her roommate gets an eye infection, storms out in a fit of rage, and never comes back. The next morning, Jade finds a note in her room telling her that her roommate has decided to "pursue other opportunities" and "is not fit for Cowell University" and has "very severe corneal issues." There's green gunk on the corner of the card and it smells.

Jade doesn't feel right about the whole thing. Danielle had been a very pleasant roommate up until the eye infection. She always kept her side of the room neat, only complained a little about the clothes strewn around Jade's bed, and laughed at at least half of Jade's jokes. Those are the kind of people Jade tries to keep in her life.

Danielle prayed a lot. Which was a little annoying when Jade was trying to take a nap and Danielle was on her knees by her bed, whispering to God and Jesus and Sweet Mother Mary.

Danielle's copy of the Bible is still sitting on her nightstand.

So, while at first Jade thought Danielle's sudden irritability had been homesickness or a side-effect of the pills the school nurse gave for her eye -- she even read the label on the container to make sure -- now she thinks there's something fishy going on here. Danielle would never willingly leave her Bible behind.

Jade's first impression of Perrie is Perrie walking in without knocking, dropping her bag to the floor with a heavy thud, and saying: "You're going to have to clean up."

As far as first impressions go, it's not a great one.

Perrie is a downgrade from Danielle.

"She's always like, 'Jade, put your shirt in the hamper. Jade, be quiet I'm trying to sleep and it's not 2 pm yet. Jade, don't touch my stuff." Jade huffs and sticks her bottom lip out.

"That," Leigh-Anne starts. She presses her mouth together and hums. "Those actually sound like reasonable requests."

"Leigh!" Jade furrows her eyebrows. "Jesy, help me out."

"You waste your entire day if you sleep until 2 pm," Jesy offers.

"You didn't come out of your room until 1:30 last Saturday," Leigh-Anne counters.

"She doesn't sleep at night," Jade interrupts before they get into a bickering match. She's trying to complain here.

Leigh-Anne's face softens. "Oh, if she keeps you up, you should say something."

"She doesn't keep me up," Jade mutters. She is not getting the compassion she intended when she started this conversation. "She leaves the room and comes back right before sunset."

"Weird." Jesy shrugs.

Jesy and Leigh-Anne cuddle up on Jade's bed, and she sits in her desk chair. Perrie's got her nose in some huge, pretentious book. As per usual. Jade clears her throat.

She waits, but when no one responds, she clears her throat again, louder. "Excuse me."

"What?" Jesy drops her phone onto the bed.

"I got a message from my English TA. She says a few different students have gotten Danielle's eye infection and gone missing. A girl from our class is gone now, too."

"Weird," Leigh-Anne says, shrugging. She pushes herself up so she's sitting against the wall, back straight. "Is it contagious?"

Perrie snorts.
