"Mafumafu-kun, what are you hiding behind your back?"

"M-Me? Haha, nothing!"

I tightened my grip around the small leather book, making sure Soraru-san wouldn't see it.

"If you say so..."

"Well then, I gotta go! Bye!!"

Running away as fast as I could, I stopped behind the school building and took a deep breath.
Sighing, I brought out the year book I had been hiding, opening the last few pages.

"Soraru-san...", I blushed as I looked at the picture of us smiling together.

It was a picture I associated with happy memories, the only problem was-

It was in the 'best couple' section.

How could this happen!?
Soraru-san and I were just friends!!

Flashback

"Smile you two!!", our classmate cheered, camera in hand.

I excitedly hugged Soraru-san, throwing my arms around him, smiling happily.
Soraru sighed but returned the smile, laying a hand on my shoulder.

We spent the rest of this festive day laughing and smiling together, enjoying our free day.

Flashback end

Now that I thought about it, our classmates often made jokes about our relationship, saying how cute we looked together and that we would make a great couple.
I never thought they were serious but I was secretly happy to hear it.

I would never admit it, but I've always liked Soraru-san.
He has been there for me since day one and I could never repay him.

I would never let him see that we got nominated for best couple and even won without even being a couple!!

"Mafumafu? What are you doing here?"

"H-Huh? Soraru-san!?"

Without thinking, I hid the book behind me again, nervously laughing.

"Haha, hi, Soraru-san! What brings you here?"

"Uh... School...?"

"Haha, right, I forgot! Haha!"

"Mafu, are you okay? And what are you hiding behind your back again?"

"I-It's really nothing! Haha..."

"If you say so... Ah, by the way, did you see the year book already?"

"H-Huh?"

Hearing him mention the year book I started to panic.
Maybe he already knew?
What would he do if he find out?
What would he do if he knew I liked him?
He would probably be grossed out...

"N-No, I didn't see it yet! Is there something special...?"

"I wouldn't call it special but we're featured in it. On the last pages, though."

"Ah, I see... What exactly do they say about us...?"

"I told you it's nothing special."

"Nothing special!? You call being best couple nothing special!?"

"Oh?", Soraru smirked.

"So you did look at it?"

"I-I-"

I blushed madly, hitting Soraru with the book.

"I may have looked at it! But how can you act so calm about it!?"

"Why are you so mad?"

Soraru tried hard to contain his grin, but I saw right through him.

"Because it's embarrassing and you don't care at all!!"

This time he couldn't help but to chuckle, which made me really irritated.

"Listen, Mafu. It's not a big deal. If they want to think of us as a couple, why not let them?"

"But..."

"Is there another reason you don't like it?"

There is.

I was frustrated.

Frustrated that we weren't a real couple.
But I couldn't possibly tell him that.
So I stayed silent.

"Mafu... Listen. I might have something to tell you."

I don't want to hear it.

"Do you know why I don't care? Because I wouldn't mind us being seen as couple."

"Wh-What do you mean by that?"

"Hah... Do you really want me to say it? I love you. So of course I wouldn't mind being in a relationship with you. Do you understand now?"

"I-I- You- What...?"

My head was spinning.
I couldn't think straight, my mind has been cleared.

"Do I have to repeat it so you understand? I love you, Mafu. I'd be happy if you would want to be best couple with me."

I was left speechless.
Soraru-san wants to be with me?

"I-I- I don't know what to say, I... I understand! I love you too, Soraru-san!! It just bugged me that we're voted best couple even though we aren't..."

"Then let's become one."

He leaned in, his face dangerously close to my own.

"Let's become the best couple they've ever seen."
