TEN

CHAPTER TEN - MS LANA

John B had left the house early. He had to return the scuba gear he took before Ward Cameron noticed it was missing. 

Brizo stayed at home. She was sleeping on the pull out couch waiting for John B to come back so they could go ask Lana Grubbs why her husband had their father's compass. She was already dressed up but she was so tired after not sleeping much that night she just thought it would be nice to take a nap before her brother came back. The night before, the siblings had stayed up most of the night talking about the compass. John B had new faith - he was sure their father was sending them a message somehow. However, Brizo just believed that Scooter Grubbs probably had stolen the compass thinking he could sell it for some cash. 

"DCS! I know you're in there!" The loud knocking on the door woke Brizo up. She quickly sat up straight ready to run if the DCS walked into her home. But instead, JJ jumped in the window right next to her scaring the girl and earning a scream from her. 

"JJ! You stupid asshole!" She groaned. JJ entered the house. He walked through the door laughing at the girl who was now lying again on the pull out.

"You should have seen your face.Your face was like..." He did an impression of what he thought the girl's face was and kept on laughing. 

"Yeah, really funny, JJ" She showed him her middle finger.

"Actually, I'm sorry. I thought you were John B" He said walking up to her. He got down on his knees beside the pull out so their faces were at the same level. 

"Yeah, well, sorry to disappoint you" She turned to look at the boy. 

"Nah. Don't worry. I like you better" A playful smirk showing on the boy's face making Brizo smile, "also, we need to talk" 

"About what?" Brizo didn't need to ask, she knew what he wanted to talk about. But she wasn't sure what to say. 

"About... you know. Uh- About yesterday" He run his hand through his hair.

"Okay. Let's talk" Brizo sat up straight adjusting the summer dress she was wearing. She also had her favorite bikini underneath it, just in case. When you live in the Outer Banks, you have to own swimsuits, not underwear. That's what she had always thought. 

JJ sat beside her on the pull out. He looked at the girl in the eyes, not knowing what to say next. Brizo could tell he was nervous. And so was she. She didn't want their friendship to be ruined if he thought that their almost kiss had been a mistake.

"We almost broke the no pogue on pogue macking rule" He finally said. 

"Yeah... so... Uh- what- what happens now?" She looked up at him.
