You closed your eyes, suppressing the sickening feeling it brought you to just simply look at the papers. You shook your head. Stop making this longer than it needs to be. You grabbed the papers, shoving them into the bag.
You walked past Dabi. "Come, let's go", you had to get out of here before your completely lost it. Shoving the door closed, you didn't bother to lock it. As you and Dabi neared the stares, you suddenly heard voices. Both you and him stopped dead in your tracks, looking at each other to make sure you hadn't hallucinated it. Sure enough, you heard footsteps heading down the stairs.
Your eyes grew large, your body shaking as the adrenaline flowed through your veins. You grabbed Dabi's hand, dragging him towards the closest cell, switching off the lights in the process. The both of you sat now in complete darkness behind one of the small cement walls. Your heart was beating so hard you swore it was going to pop right out of your chest.
As the steps grew closer, you didn't even grasp that you were still holding Dabi's hand – and now crushing it in fear. You heard the steps finally come to a stop – only a few meters from the cell you were in.
"I don't see anyone, Sir Goldberg", you heard a male voice speak. Your blood froze in your veins as the name rang in your ears. It couldn't be. It couldn't be. No. He was supposed to be dead. It – It had to be some one else.
You saw the faint glow as someone turned on a large flashlight and flashed around the room. You sunk deeper into the ground as the beam passed above you and Dabi. Your whole body was shaking at this point as you dared not to breath. You couldn't even bring yourself to look at Dabi, you were frozen in place by fear.
"Well, the passageway is opened, and the alarms did go off, so you can't possibly tell me no one was here", a deep voice grumbled. You felt yourself almost lose your grip on consciousness in paralyzing fear. You whole body tingled all over with numbness. No. It couldn't be. You vision started to fill with black spots. No. No, no, no, no, no, no. How was he still alive? He was supposed to be dead! You – you saw it! You saw it with your own eyes! You saw him take his last breath with your own two eyes.
You couldn't comprehend what was even happening anymore in fear. Your senses became numb. The void of darkness stared at you, embalming you. Just as you were sure that you'd lose it, you felt some one squeeze your hand. Almost like a splash of cold water, you awoke from your shocked state, taking in a silent breath. You stared at Dabi, trying to bring yourself back to earth. Even he looked shaken by your state, as he stared at you in mild terror.
Blinking a few times your senses returned to you. Keep it together. This is not the time to lose it. "The safe is open Sir, some one was here", you heard the voices now coming from the safe, the light leaving you and Dabi in darkness once more.
You heard a single huff. "Mmm, as expected ...", the deep voice mumbled, unsurprised. As expected? What did that mean?! You had to make sure if it was him or not. It could just be your imagination. You let go of Dabi's hand, sitting up. "What are you doing?!", Dabi hissed quietly.
You ignored him, turning around and luring over the cement wall. You thought about activating your night vision but were to afraid that your glowing eyes might expose you. You squinted at the two silhouettes standing in front of the safe.
"Sir, what are we to do now?", the slimmer figure asked the larger man. "Well, search for her. Either she's still here or she's already left, but she can't be far. So, go tell the other men to go find her and bring her to me".
Nausea took over as you were hit with reality. He knew. It was him. They turned around, the flashlight momentarily lighting up the large mans face. You felt your heart stop as the same cold, black eyes stared directly at you. Fear completely enveloped you. Your mouth dropping open. All sense leaving your brain. As much as you didn't want to, you felt a choked scream make its way up your throat.
Just as you were sure you were going to expose you and Dabi, a hand wrapped around your mouth from behind, another arm around your waist, pulling you backwards into some one's chest.
Dabi squeezed you tightly against him as his hand clenched over you mouth. You felt his heart beating nearly as quick as yours. You closed your mouth, the tears welling up in your eyes. He was alive. He was alive. He was back. He was never going away. As much as you tried to fight it, silent tears streamed down your face. You tried to distract yourself from screaming, focusing onto Dabi. His quiet breathing against your neck, his body heat against your back. His arms holding you tightly.
Oh god. You were so scared. You were beyond petrified. For the first time in 7 years, you had felt completely terrified and helpless. You heard the footsteps walk past the cell and back up the stairs. Every step, seeming too slow and heavy, sent tremors through your body. You and Dabi were once again swallowed by the darkness. The tears rolled down your cheek, and as much as you tried to stop them, you couldn't help yourself. You shook as you completely broke down.
"Y/N", Dabi's voice was soft against you ear, "don't cry". You clenched your jaw, trying your best not to, but it didn't matter how hard you fought against it, if anything you cried harder. You had to hold your breath in fear of making a noise.
"Y/N", Dabi's voice was almost panicky and urgent. You squeezed your eyes shut. Stop crying. Oh god, why couldn't you stop crying?! You felt Dabi turn his head to peer over the wall. "I think they're gone now", he whispered. You nodded your head. Feeling like an empty void; tears continued to stream down your face.
Dabi's hand lifted from your face. "I'm sorry", you whispered hoarsely as you got off him. Tears were still streaming down your face, yet you managed to keep your voice under control. It felt like a large lump in your throat, like you were being choked. Dabi stood up. "Let's go", he mumbled, turning on the flashlight.
You nodded, wanting to walk after him, yet your legs gave out under you as you crumbled to the floor. "Shit Y/N, you're a wreck", he mumbled, kneeling down to you. You stared at him, your eyes large and burning. He sighed. "Look, I don't know what to do with crying girls", he mumbled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck, "so ... do me a favour and, try to stop crying. I can even carry you if I gotta, but don't cry. Man, I'm really clueless when it comes to that".
You smiled weakly through the tears. It was sweet, but hilarious at the same time. "I don't think you'll have to carry me", you mumbled, wiping away the tears, "I'll be fine". Yes, you were scared shitless, yes, you wanted to crawl into a hole and die, but something about how Dabi had tried to comfort you in his own terrible way, had given you some strength. Strength to focus on your surroundings and Dabi. Strength to ignore your terror and helplessness. Strength, to once again, just carry on. Strength to put yourself into survival mode.
The both of you stood up. "You sure you can walk?", he mumbled. "Yeah, I'm good", you waved him a thumbs up. He shook his head, turning to walk, shining the flashlight ahead of you. You still felt yourself falling apart, but ignored anything that you were feeling right now, and forced yourself to focus.
"We should still be careful though", you whispered shakily, walking after Dabi, "he ... he did mention that he'd have people looking for us".
Dabi nodded as he ascended the first step. "If we run into some one here, we won't have anywhere to run, so," he looked back at you, his typical smirk playing along his lips, "don't be the moron you are and get in my way".
You playfully glared back at him. "I could say the same", you mumbled. "Don't get over-confident, Angelface", he mumbled, turning to walk. "Shut up, Asshole", you grumbled, a small smile on your lips.
