You tried not to choke on the lack of air in your lungs. Never in your life had you been so thankful that it was absolutely dark.
Dabi's hand felt ... strange. With its burnt skin and strange staples, it was definitely something peculiar, but at the same time, it felt ... good. His hand was warm and firm. The skin wasn't necessarily soft, but his hold was gentle. His hand was quite a bit larger than yours, you realized as the tips of your fingers barely made it around the side of his hand, yet his almost swallowed yours.
You tried to focus on anything but his hand, but it felt so odd. Your skin wasn't used to contact, much less any gentle type anyways. You hadn't failed to notice how his hand had, ever so slightly, tightened around yours. You sneaked a glance at Dabi who was only a few inches behind you now. He looked straight ahead, his face not betraying anything. You turned back to look ahead of you, spotting a faint light out in front.
It felt like you had been wandering forever, but it had only been 2 minutes tops. The dim light came closer, you deactivated your night vision and slowly took your hand out of Dabi's. The light was a pale blue, obviously coming from another room. As your hand slid out of Dabi's, to your surprise, his fingertips still seemed to reach after yours right before you lost all the contact. You tried to ignore it, telling yourself you'd only imagined it.
Kurogiri took a turn right, the doorway leading to the blue-ish light now. You followed him inside, nearly staggering as you entered.
In front of you were some very unstable-looking stairs, barely seeming to hold together. You followed Kurogiri down the steps which dangerously creaked with every footstep. Looking over to your left, the floor was littered with broken furniture, paint and scrap metal. There was a wrecked wooden table scattered out across the entire floor.
You looked over to your right, the source of the strange light seeming to come from there. As you took the last step you nearly fell over a generator that rattled evenly without a bother. You stepped around it, captivated by strange, large, enclosed, aquarium-looking containers with large metal clamps that looked more like claws, hanging above them. These containers seemed to be the source of the blue light. You could hear muffled bubbling noises from them, like a pot on the stove filled with boiling water.
You weren't able to look at them for any longer, before your attention was drawn to Shigaraki who seemed to be intensely staring at one of the containers, his arms crossed. He remained unmoving, only his beaming red eyes drifting over to acknowledge your presence. His eyes seemed to glow even more dangerously now with the strange blue light.
He untucked his right hand, curling his fingers in and out twice, beckoning you to come over. A deathly silence had come over the room, not that there was much noise to begin with, but it seemed like even the generator had quieted down. You took small steps towards him, trying not to stumble as your legs turned to jelly.
You reached him, standing less than a meter in front of him. You jumped lightly when he suddenly leaned to the front, his face only inches from yours. You were frozen in fear as you looked directly into his eyes. They were nothing like Dabi's you realized, and it wasn't because of the colour. They seemed emotionless, blank ... like the eyes that belonged in corpses. "Y/N", he started, his voice was more even than normally, "took you quite a while, didn't it?".
You were unable to make your lips move to form a single word. "The file", he stated, holding out his hand without having moved in the slightest. You knew he had wanted this so, luckily; you had thought in advance and had taken the file with you.
It took you a few shallow breaths to make your arm with the file lift up and put it into his. He held up the file with four fingers, finally standing up straight to investigate it. He looked at it for a few seconds before putting it down on one of the strange aquarium things. "Now, listen here", he mumbled, suddenly reaching out and tightly grabbing your jaw with 4 fingers.
Dabi had to use every fibre of self-control in him left to stop himself from lunging out and tearing Shigaraki's arm off and – as Y/N had once said – beat him to death with it. He didn't like it that Shigaraki had already been so close to her and now he was grabbing her face like that, obviously hurting her. He slowly clenched and unclenched his fists, trying to will the upcoming flames away.
"I have a mission that I need to complete", Shigaraki explained slowly, "and you will participate. And your going to play your part perfectly; understand?". A mission? You tried not to cringe away. No. The way he was explaining this, it meant absolutely nothing good. This was definitely not going to be like your last missions – no – you could tell, this was something big.
You managed to make yourself nod in his vice-like grip. He smiled his weird smile again. "Good", he let go of your jaw, standing up straight once more, "now that, that's settled. Tomorrow at dawn, everyone needs to be in the clubroom". He was looking at Dabi now.
You assumed Dabi had nodded or something of sorts, because Shigaraki turned back to you. "And if you don't cooperate", Shigaraki raised his hand above the container, "you'll end up like them". The tapping of his fingertips against the glass echoed in the silent room. Curiosity drove you to move your eyes from his face over to one of the containers.
Your body wasn't sure which to do first – throw up or run. Dread overwhelmed you so strongly, your chest felt tight, painful. It felt like you were being choked and nausea took over once more. Pins and needles ran along your entire body as you vision became tunnel-like, tears crawling their way into your eyes.
In front of you, inside of the aquarium, was a huge black, humanoid monster swimming in a gel-like substance with many tubes attached to it. It was extremely muscular and was covered in scars. The part that made you want to heave was where you could see its brain was exposed on the top of its head with large eyes that were wide open and stared blankly ahead. It had a beak-like mouth with an array of sharp teeth.
You stumbled back, terror lashing out on you. Oh god. Oh god. It wasn't the sight of the monster itself that set panic loose inside of you, but it was the fact, that you'd been there already. You'd been in one of those tanks. You'd been in that gel-like substance. At this point, you were sure you and that monster were equal, even if not in looks.
You couldn't breathe, your airways had completely shut down. You stumbled to the other side of the room and fell to your knees, coughing for air. The world had started spinning again. You couldn't hold it back anymore. Like hot fire, it shot up your throat.
You shook, not with tremors this time, but with sobs. You couldn't breathe. You wanted to run. Why couldn't it just let you go?!
You heard Shigaraki laugh behind you. "Glad you go the message", he sneered. You sighed, your airways slowly opening up again. Shut it out. Shut it all out.
It took you a moment before you got up, turning around to face Shigaraki. You tried to suppress a shudder, the memories burning in the front of your mind. You had to fight back spitting an acidic reply at Shigaraki. The English language didn't have enough words for you to string together for what you wanted to call him right now.
You clenched your jaw, nodding tightly before following Dabi out of the room.
