You explained to Jason what had happened at the lab, leaving out the part where you and Dabi were ready to go at each other's throats. His face filled with visible terror, paling by the moment as you continued explaining.

It took him a moment to get himself together before speaking. "He...was there?", his voice was barely audible with disbelieve and shock. You nodded, feeling extremely tired. All you wanted to do was sleep, but you weren't sure you'd even be able to get any.

"But I thought he was dead!", Jason exclaimed; you tired not to flinch at the assumption. You scratched your head, still trying to grasp that yourself. "I guess apparently not dead enough", you mumbled.

Jason rubbed his face vigorously. "What the hell?", he mumbled to himself, "I swear I hadn't seen or gotten anything from him recently".

You perked up at that. "What?". Jason momentarily froze, his hands still in front of his face. "I uh, well of course I would still keep up tabs on him, for a case like this, but", he sighed, "I don't understand, I couldn't get a trace of any of this". He looked down at his hands, a familiar expression of self-doubt flickered across his face.

Grabbing his hands you look at him softly. "It's not your fault okay? You are a good hacker, this guy is just, well, impossible to touch, and we know that, so don't beat yourself up over it", you mumbled.

"That's not it", his voice was strained as his brows drew closer together. "Then what is?".

He sighed. "You could've died today Y/N, and it would've been my fault".

You internally groaned. Okay, so maybe you were a terrible friend, but you really weren't in the mood for one of his self-pitying hissy fits. "No, it wouldn't", you stated firmly, "besides, if its anyone's fault it's that idiot's", you pointed to Dabi.

He sent you a glare as Jason stared at you in confusion. "How?", Jason mumbled. "Well, he was with me after all. He should've 'protected' me", you dramatically put your hand against your forehead, "but, Jason, if I've learned one thing, its that you need to realize that sometimes your knight in shining armour is a dumbass wrapped in tinfoil", you stood up.

Jason chuckled. "So, in conclusion, its actually no one's fault, because I can take care of myself", you mumbled, heading towards your room, "goodnight you guys".

You plopped down onto your bed, wrapping the blanket around yourself. The last few days had been rather ... eventful. You shifted uncomfortably, a strange feeling pressing on your chest. Thinking about everything that had happened today made your throat feel dry and closed, your heartbeat thumping faster and stronger in your chest. You stared at your nightstand next to you, trying to distract yourself from the oncoming anxiety. The nightstand was a dark, reddish wood covered with varnish. The grain ran in one direction downwards, occasionally parting to form knots in the wood. You took a deep breath trying to calm yourself.

Sleep. You needed sleep. Only seconds had the thoughts been in your mind did you feel exhaustion finally taking its toll on you. You could feel your consciousness ebbing away; as clear and concise as it was mere moments ago, it was coming to an end. Your eyes grew heavy, paining with the strain of trying to keep them open. You barely noticed how you gave yourself away to exhaustion, fatigue debilitating you completely. Closing your eyes, you prayed to some higher being above that you would get a peaceful night of sleep.
