The shooting momentarily stopped. Your eyes snapped open, staring at Dabi's chest. You hadn't even noticed that your whole body had begun to shake. You stared up at Dabi as you both lay deathly still. He met your eyes, and for a moment it was just you and him. Wrapped in his arms, his eyes on yours, your faces so close you could feel his breaths on your lips.

"Come out!", a voice boomed through the store, ripping you and Dabi out of your bubble. Your heart was thundering in your chest, as you finally comprehended what happened. You wriggled in Dabi's grip, looking around for Jason or Tiffany. "Shh, stay still", Dabi whispered, his lips brushing against your forehead with every word. As much as it sent butterflies flying in your stomach, you ignored him, bending your head upwards to see out in front of you into the next aisle. You saw Tiffany sitting, her back pressed against the stand, breathing heavily. You had moment of eye contact before she sent you a reassuring nod, encouraging you that she was okay. Dabi's arms loosened around you.

You heard mumbling from outside. You slowly sat up, your whole body was unsteady and highly unreliable as it shook violently with adrenaline. Grabbing the medicine box, you grabbed Dabi's coat, stuffing the medicine into one of its inner pockets. His arm was still wrapped around your waist, as you turned to peer through the gaps in the aisle. Your eyes searched the place for Jason. You found him crouching behind the counter, looking oddly calmer than anyone else. If anything, he looked annoyed. You chose to pay no mind to it, looking ahead at your attackers.

You felt your stomach lurch in fear. It was the same men from the lab. "Shh", Dabi mumbled behind you, feeling you tense up. His grip on you tightened. "I'm fine", you whispered.

"Come out or else we'll fire again!", the voice boomed a second time. Your mind was racing, trying to formulate a plan. What to do? How should you escape? When you first had entered the small shop, you had made sure to check for back doors, to your discomfort, not finding any. You looked over at Tiffany for suggestions; she only returned your look of helplessness.

You took a deep, silent breath, feeling a plan making its way to your head. Just then, you felt Dabi painfully tense up. He groaned, digging his head into your back and quietly hissing. You turned around, seeing him grab his side were his wound was. The action of knocking you over must've ripped the stitches. You turned around fully to face him, pushing his arm off you and lifting up his shirt to view. You saw the bandage slowly stain red. So, your assumption had been correct.

By the frown etched into his face you could tell he was in great pain. You looked around. Behind you were some painkillers for headaches only, but painkillers, nonetheless. You quietly grabbed the container, popping several into your hands and handed them to Dabi.

"Aim!", the voice commanded. Crap, they were going to shoot again. You turned around, trying to figure out how many there were approximately. At least 10, you counted. You heard a noise from Tiffany only to see her, quickly crawling over to you and Dabi. They must've spotted her, because the moment she did, the shooting began once more. You threw yourself to the ground, dragging Dabi down. His arm wrapped around you once more, squeezing you tightly as he dug his head into you shoulder, writhing and hissing in pain. You were shocked by all the sudden body contact from him. You squeezed your eyes shut as the gunshots made your ears hurt, unable to cover them as your arms were held down by Dabi's vice-like grip.

Tiffany was flat on the ground in front of you. The shooting stopped again. "Last warning, come out or we'll come in there and it's going to get a lot more unpleasant", the voice was dead serious, sending shivers down your spine. You shook even more violently than before. Dabi still hadn't let you go, stiff and still in pain. His breathing was heavy, his eyes shut and his brows furrowed in pain. "Dabi", you whispered, "you need to let me go. I can't move". He was unresponsive, his grip still tight, only now making you notice that he himself was lightly shaking.

He didn't know what was going on with him. He had heard Y/N's request and he understood it, but he couldn't make his arm cooperate. All he felt was Y/N and pain, and he preferred the latter. For some reason, he couldn't move at all. It was like his brain wasn't in control anymore. It made him feel like a time, many years back, when he was just a small boy and was so paralyzed with fear and pain. This time it felt different though, sure, a great aspect of it was the pain, but he didn't want to let go of Y/N. She smelled so nice, she was so soft and comforting. She made him feel better and made him feel safe. God, he was being so pathetic, but he couldn't seem to let go of Y/N for the life of him. He realized he was putting everyone's lives in jeopardy, Y/N's the only one he actually cared about, but as much as he told his arms to release her, it was like they had turned to stone. When he had seen the men with the guns stand at the window, all of their red lasers focused on Y/N's back, it was like all sense had left him. His legs moved on his own. It was as if though, for a moment, his heart had stopped beating, his mind had stopped working, his sight had turned into tunnel vision, the blood had frozen solid in his veins. He hadn't even realized how bad it had shaken him up until now. He couldn't believe the though of losing Y/N had completely wrecked him over – 10 times over. He didn't know what to do with all these feelings.

You stared at Dabi. You'd never seen him this ... vulnerable. You had to do something to comfort him, you weren't sure if it was shock or maybe a panic-attack, but he needed to let you go, or else you'd all die. "Dabi", you mumbled softly, managing to bend your arms so that your hand wrapped around his arm, "listen. You need to let me go. I'm not going to go anywhere without you, but we need to get out of here or else we're all going to die".

You swallowed a deep breath, rationality leaving you as you thought of the only thing that would stir him. You softly pressed your lips to his forehead, planting a gentle kiss there. "Let's go somewhere safe", you mumbled softly. He jerked almost violently at the sudden action. His arms momentarily losing their strength, his eyes snapping open. You took the chance, slipping out of his grip and turning to face Tiffany – just as long as you didn't have to face him right now. "There is an emergency gun here somewhere, right?", you asked, your words hushed. Tiffany nodded, realizing something. "It's right there", she motioned towards the receptionist's desk, at the very end of the counter, a handgun in a holder.

You nodded. "Okay, I need you to get the gun. I'll cover for you", you spoke hushed. Her eyes went large. "We're giving you 10 seconds to come out!", the voice, roared, clearly getting impatient. "10!", they started their countdown.

"Me?!", Tiffany hissed, "how are you even supposed to cover me?! You don't have a gun!". You grabbed her shoulders rather violently, getting impatient. "9". The stands weren't going to be able to withhold a third round of shooting. "Just trust me!", you whisper-yelled. "8". Your aggressiveness seemed to work, and she nodded, crawling to the edge of their current aisle. "7". You had no idea if this would work, but it was your only choice. "6". You had never even tried this before, but it couldn't be that hard – right? "5".

Tiffany looked back at you. "4". You showed her with your hands "on the count of three". "3". She sent you an uneasy look but nodded. "2". You counted with your fingers down, 3, 2, 1. "1". Time came to a stop; the guns started their fire. You jumped upwards, standing completely upright, and raised your hand like gun of its own at them. It was only milliseconds before symbols ran from your shoulder down your arm, glowing. The last symbols reached your finger, and you focused all your energy into a single point. A white light exploded in front of you, blinding you. The beam of focused energy shot forward with such speed you wouldn't have been able to see it, had you not felt it. It felt as if it had taken your entire soul with it as it shot out towards your attackers.
