The days went by, and I got some bad information from Alice right when I thought things couldn't be smoother. It was late afternoon, when she burst into Jasper's room, a phone in her hands, her eyes wide and worried. 

 We both jumped, me looking up from my phone screen, Jasper simply opening his eyes. "Hey Alice, you know this is my room." Jazz teased, sitting up, me following his lead. "I could have been naked." 

 "It's true, he could have been." I added helpfully, smirking at my best friend. "It happens a lot." 

 "Courtney, you need to listen to this." She shoved the house-phone in my hands, "it's Bella."

 "Is something wrong?" My eyebrows furrowed, and my heartbeat increased only slightly as my mind ran through all of the millions of possible death scenarios Bella could get into on a private island. She could have gotten eaten by a shark, she could have fallen out of a tree, she could have been hit by a bus... 

 "Yes." 

 "Oh shit." I held the phone up to my ear, "Bella? Bella it's Courtney." 

 "Court?" Her voice was slightly muffled due to bad reception, but I could hear her well enough to know that she was crying. "Courtney I'm scared." 

 "What's wrong?" I put my finger to my opposite ear so I could hear her better, walking to the corner of the room, completely aware of Jasper and Alice staring at me. When she didn't answer, I pressed harder, "Bella answer me!" 

 "I-I think I'm pregnant." 

 I was surprised right then and there that the phone didn't slip from my hand. Pregnant? By a vampire? How does that even happen? I thought it was impossible. "I-I'm sorry, what?" I asked, hoping I somehow heard her wrong. "You're pregnant?" 

 "I think so," her voice broke, "Courtney, I'm scared, what do I do?" 

 "Okay, okay, here's what we're gonna do." I leaned my forehead on the wall. "Okay? Take a deep breath." I waited until I heard her breath deeply on the other line. "Good job, now, tell me everything." 

 "Okay, well this morning, after we..." She paused, and I hummed to tell her I understood. "I was in the bathroom, and I just couldn't stop throwing up! And then I realized that my period was almost three weeks late, and then I... I felt something." 

"You felt something?" I pursued, quirking an eyebrow, "Bella, that's impossible. Babies aren't big enough for you to feel until like, twenty weeks at least." 

 "I know, I know!" Bella's voice was growing more and more agitated, "I don't know what's going on!" 

 "You're coming home?" 

"Immediately." 

 "Okay, okay so here's what you have to do," I paced across the room, staring at the floor. "Just come home, and if something is wrong, we can call of the wedding and-"
