She made my way to the astronomy tower, which is usually where she goes when she want to be alone. When she got to the top of the stairs she sniffled which was enough to grab the attention of whoever it was that was up there. The boy turned around and it was Regulus.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't know anyone was up here, I'll go somewhere else," She said turning around.
"No, it's fine, really. Also, I think that's the longest sentence you've ever said to me." He chuckled softly.
She turned back around. "Same goes to you, and thanks really but I don't feel like crying in front of you."
"I mean you already are."
She chuckled and shook her head before walking up to the railing and sitting down a few feet from him, dangling her feet over the edge. "This feels wrong, don't we hate each other?"
"I mean hate is a strong word." He chuckled again.
"Yeah I know, that's why I use it."
"Ouch," He said placing his hand over his heart.
"Dork."
"So, why are you crying? if you don't mind me asking."
"You know, usually I would indeed mind, but I don't even care anymore it was a stupid reason anyway. Basically, my brother called me the s word. And it hurt coming out of his mouth."
"So he called you a slut?"
"Yeah... it just hurt coming from him." She said looked down at her feet.
"Well for the record, I don't think it, if that counts for anything."
She shook my head and chuckled. And then the waterworks came again.
"Now what?"
She shook my head over and over. "The same reasons before." She coughed.
He laughed quietly then scooted over closer to the girl.
"Hey, so you know how you're a Leo," he whispered.
She furrowed her eyebrows then turned to look at him.
"You know, your zodiac, because you're birthday is July 27th."
She was surprised he knew her birthday but just shook her head yes.
"Well there two cool things about that, the first, being that your Zodiac's animal or whatever is a Lion, and you're in Gryffindor, your mascot is a Lion." He chuckled.
"And the second?" She asked wiping the tears away.
"The second, well, so you know how my family, were all named after a star, Im regulus."
"Regulus? that's your name? no way?" She said sarcastically.
he rolled his eyes with a slight smirk on his face. "anyways, as I was saying" he chuckled. "Guess what?"
"What?"
"The star I'm named after, Regulus, is a star in your constellation, Leo." He then looked down and fiddled with his fingers.
"That is actually pretty cool, it's like the stars are aligned for us, I guess we are supposed to be friends like our brothers, huh?" She laughed "One; I hate that I just said that, and two; there are many Leos in the world." She wiped her eyes and looked at him. For the first time realizing just how mesmerizing his eyes were, he was so close she could see them clearly.
Beautiful.
He laughed. "It's true, there are a lot of Leos, it's also just coincidence, but so is us having a human conversation in the Astronomy tower."
"So, Regulus Black, are you trying to befriend me?" She smirked.
"Maybe, I mean what's the worst thing that could happen right?"
(a/n "Oh I don't know, maybe Lord Voldemort" - Sassy Harry)
And so, November 22. 1975, is the year Regulus Black and Madeline Potter began their friendship. And what would soon turn into much much more.
(a/n also that scene where she's crying and he's talking and laughing gives me Laurie and Amy vibes from that one scene in little women, which if you've seen the movie you know exactly what I'm talking about if you don't then go watch it again, I was literally so obsessed I went and watched it 4 times in the theater and it's still my favorite movie)
