- Chapter 48 - Ace is Good at BS, Race is Good with Cards, and Brooklyn is Good at War -
Warnings: Teasing, brotherly fluff
Third Person POVRace sat on a crate, looking at the boys in the water.
He had finished selling for the day and it was now around 4pm.
Spot sent Ace with him to sell.
Ace could be annoying when he wanted to, but so could Race.
Ace was someone Race liked talking to, especially when they were alone because he didn't have to keep up as much of a tough-guy and always smirking act.
They were a good bit similar.
Race sighs a bit to himself, resting his chin in the palm on his hand, his arm on his knee.
He heard/felt someone sit next to him. "How ya doing?" Sling asks him.
Sling was one of the calmer Newsies, though he could be a tease when he wanted to be one.
Race looks at him, pursing his lips. "Would you like an honest answer to that, or an answer that wouldn't get me 'soaked'?" He questions, using air quotes.
Sling chuckles. "Honest answer."
"I'd really like to be in 'Hattan right now." Race tells him, looking back over the water.
"I know, I'm sorry." Sling frowns a bit. "I could try to help, but I really don't think it'd do too much." He tells Race.
Race shrugs, not turning to face him. "There's nothing we really can do until this passes." He responds softly.
Sling pulls something out of the pocket of his pants. "You want to play cards?" He asks, holding up a pack of cards. "I can play War, BS- though that's no fun with two people-, Gin- ten card or seven card-, Go Fish,"
The two boys laugh at that.
"Crazy 8's, Old Queen, Slap Jack," he continues. "I can't play Poker, cause I don't know how, but you could teach me." Sling tells Race.
Race nods. "The only games I'll rule out is Go Fish, BS, and Slap Jack." He responds, turning his body to face Sling, his legs criss-cross. "I play Go Fish too much, BS, like you said, sucks when it's just two people playing, and Slap Jack hurts." He tells him.
Sling laughs. "It really does," he responds, handing Race the cards.
"If you don't want to play Poker right now, I can teach you another time." Race tells the boy, taking the cards and pulling them out of the pack.
"Thanks," Sling smiles. "We could start with Gin and then do War after?" He suggests. "And maybe Crazy 8's or Old Queen if we have time." He adds.
Race nods, starting to shuffle the cards. "Did you know that there is a Gin version of Poker?" He asks. "Or- a Poker version of Gin, whatever it's called."
Sling laughs. "I didn't." He responds. "We could try to learn it if we continue to play games."
Race smiles, looking up at the blonde-haired, tan-skinned boy. "I'd like that."
