Third Person POV

"How many of our Newsies are hurt?"

Race was hearing voices again.

Race didn't want to be hearing voices again.

"Most have a few scrapes or bruises, but there are a few who have some major injuries."

Last time this happened, Race had ended up back in East Side, with the newfound knowledge that Harlem was not his ally.

"Ike was caught in the crossfire of one of the fights."

It was taking Race forever to recognize the voices again.

"Hotshot got hit hard in the head while trying to help get Impulse to give up."

Impulse?

Did we win?

"There are a few others who are shaken up or are injured, but the worse off are Race and Snowflake."

Snowflake?

Race knew that name.

Is she one of the ones talking?

No. That's not her voice.

Race tried to turn over on whatever he was laying on. However, he quickly found out that this idea was very painful.

A few soft whimpers alerted Jack, Arrow, and Match that Race was awake.

Match turned to Jack. "We can continue this conversation later," he muttered to him. "You stay with Race. We'll go grab Spot."

Jack nodded, appreciative.

Match and Arrow left the room.

Jack sat down on the floor next to the bed Race was laying on. "Racer?"

Race knew that voice.

"Racer, it's Jack." Jack gently took his hands.

Jack. It's Jack. "Jack?" Race croaked out. He cringed in pain.

His throat hurt a lot.

"Yeah, don't speak for a bit," Jack told him quietly, pulling the blanket onto him again. "The doctor had to stick some fancy thing into your throat to make sure all of the water was out or something, and Revenge kinda choked you a lot too," he informed him softly, not wanting to hurt him by being too loud. "There are bruises all over your throat."

Race frowned. He closed his eyes again because the light hurt his head too much to have them open. "Is- is everyone okay?" he whispered.

Jack sighed. "You don't listen to me ever, do you?" he mumbled.

Race cracked a small smile at that.

"Yeah, they're all okay." Jack smiled when he saw Race's smile. Man, he missed seeing him smile. "I'll tell you about them while we wait for Spot."
