Every second, every thought, I'm in so deep,

But I'll never show it on my face

TURNS OUT, KREACHER HAD BEEN lurking in the attic the whole time they were there. Sirius said he had been up there, covered in dust and was no doubt rummaging through it to find more of the Black family relics for him to hide in his cupboard.

But quite frankly, Lucia didn't think that everything was adding up; Kreacher seemed to be in a better mood on his reappearance. His bitter muttering had subsided somewhat, and he submitted to orders more docilely than usual.

There was something up with that house-elf, she just couldn't point out what it was. Would she ever investigate? She didn't think so, for she thought she had enough of investigating things since last year...

Regardless, it didn't change the fact that Sirius cheerfulness over the Christmas holidays was evaporating fast as the date of their departure back to Hogwarts drew nearer. He became increasingly prone to what Mrs. Weasley called "fits of the sullens," in which he would become taciturn and grumpy, often withdrawing to Buckbeak's room for hours at a time. His gloom seeped through the house, oozing under doorways like some noxious gas, so that all of them became infected by it — though Lucia did find this a bit amusing.

After having experience spending the holidays with the Weasleys, Sirius, Harry, Hermione, even with Bao Bao, Lucia did find going back to school made her very reluctant. Compared to Hogwarts as it was now, she wanted to hide herself under the blankets so that she wouldn't have to go back to school and face that bloody toad again — but she couldn't just abandon her position in the Quidditch team when everybody depended on her to catch the Snitch to win. It was a bit overwhelming now that she thought of it.

Lucia shook her head, wanting nothing more than to get rid of that specific thought. She did not need to have cold feet months prior before the next Quidditch match. She quickly turned her attention to the game of chess in front of her that was being played by Harry against Ron.

If it was a normal circumstance, no doubt she would be cheering for Harry, but... this was chess. This was Ron's domain, no one could ever win against him even if he was playing with both eyes closed. He was the king of strategy. Harry's chess pieces were only going to perish against Ron's.
