Ibn Rajab رحمه الله said:

"Verily, when a believer loses hope of relief and begins to consider joy and comfort as far away, especially when he sees that despite numerous duas and humility, he still has not received an answer - then he begins to reproach his soul and say to it, "It is all your fault! If there was something good in you, Allah would have answered you."

Such rebukes are more popular with Allah than many other types of worship, because they are an expression of humiliation before the Protector and an admission that one does not deserve an answer to the dua. Allah, meanwhile, is already in a hurry to answer him and comfort him with relief, for He is close to the hearts that are humbled before Him.

And remember, the greater the sorrow, the nearer the help and the dispersion of desire!"
