O those who believe, why do you speak of what you yourselves do not do? Why do you speak of goodness and exhort to do it, and perhaps even boast of it, while you yourselves do not do it?

Why do you teach people to shun evil, or even pretend to be far from it, while you yourself are immersed in wickedness and evil deeds?

Is it not right for believers to behave in this way?

Who can be hated by Allah more than he who proclaims that which he himself does not do?

He who teaches good to people should be among the first to do it. And whoever warns others against evil should himself be the first to avoid it.

Allah, سبحان الله وتعالى, said:

"Do you order the righteousness of the people and forget1 yourselves while reciting the Scriptures? Will you not then be reasonable?"

Surah al-Baqarah verse 44

And Shuaib, عليه السلام, said to his people:

"[...] I do not want to do what I forbid you to do. I just want to reform to the best of my ability. "

Sura al-Hūd verse 88
