"Why you look like you're about to throw up?" My sister asked, looking over at me as I stared at myself in the mirror.

"Cause I am!" I told her immediately.

"—sold out solo performance at the Barclays, im buggin, fuck you mean." I continued.

"Junior, you've been rehearsing this for weeks, you know those songs top to bottom, you'll do fine!" She laughed

I'd invited my family backstage for my first big show. Unsurprisingly though only my sister showed up, with my nephew too—but they'd be safely secluded when the show started so I wasn't worried about his safety or anything.

"—check my phone and see if my shorty said sum." I told her.

"You just called him five minutes ago and he told you he was almost here, just relax Jayceon—oh my god." She spoke.

"—tell your unc unc to calm down stinka." She joked, looking down at my nephew Cameron.

He laughed at his moms antics but did repeat her which made me crack a small smile.

Thankfully though, before I ripped out my hair, the door opened, revealing the cure to all my anxiety.

"sorry, traffic was stupid getting here—and the shoot went longer than planned." August explained as he rushed over to my side.

Immediately I hugged him, feeling my worries wash away little by little as both his smell, and his words calmed me.

He was the only one that could do this for me, I swear.

Nothing else got me to just chill out like he did.

"—it's all good," I told him sincerely, "I ain't gotta be on stage for another ten minutes."

"Okay good, wait where's Nyjel—isn't he gonna perform a song with you—the one you have together?" He questioned.

"Yeah but he's runnin' a little late too, just a couple minutes though—him and Quan are gonna be here soon." I responded.

He nodded at my words then looked over at my sister. While he greeted her and apologized profusely for not doing it sooner, I went back to just taking a moment to breathe to myself.

I don't think niggas realize how big it was for me to be performing at the Barclays. I grew up watching shows here, this was validation beyond imagination.

"Jayce," I heard August speak, causing me to turn around.

"hm?" I responded.
