Chapter 36 - Danger

I stopped in my tracks, barely avoiding the collision of my body with a tree. It would've been more fatal for the tree than to me, anyway.

I couldn't get my head to work with my body. I was losing focus. My legs were leading me somewhere when my head was already elsewhere.

My head was in Forks, where Aiyanna was on the bridge of death.

Jasper was still on the phone, but he was silent. Instead, he had purposely come closer to Alice who had been on the phone with Rosalie who was reporting the situation.

"She is breathing weakly and...she's bleeding." Rosalie said, her voice sounding more like a painful grunt.

In the midst of all this, not once had I thought about my family's hunger. Jasper, Emmett and I were the only ones who had hunted recently. The rest of them had hunted weeks before us, which meant that hunger would soon, affect their senses.

"Can you do this, Rosalie ?" Carlisle had asked her.

To which she answered. "Yes."

"Hold your breath, and swallow back the venom, Rosalie. It will help." Carlisle calmly instructed her.

I couldn't help but hate even more how our nature and desires could prevent us from saving people's lives. Aiyanna's life. What was this strength and speed for, if not to make a good use of it for those who were deprived of it ?

Rosalie liked Aiyanna, but she wasn't physically prepared to the blood she was probably losing at the moment.

"Does any part of her body looks broken to you ?"

Following Carlisle's instructions, Rosalie didn't say a word. Instead, she emitted a sound to say no.

"I'm pulling her out." Rosalie grunted.

More than to save Aiyanna, she probably wanted to get this over quickly so she could breathe some fresh air.

Through the phone, I could hear the sounds of broken glass that Rosalie must've moved out of her way, the sounds of a seatbelt being torn. I could almost see Aiyanna's unconscious body being pulled out of her car before Rosalie said those words :

"It's done. I'm bringing her to the hospital."

I wanted to beg her. I wanted to beg the whole universe to not take her away yet. She had so much she hadn't seen yet. The mission I had given myself to make her live the happiest life while she'd still be alive, couldn't stop here. Not now.

"We will be there soon." I heard Carlisle say from behind me as I was already sprinting back to Forks.

3rd POV

Chief Swan, Heta Brown and 3 other colleagues came out of the meeting room as they were investigating on the recent unexplainable deaths in Forks. The victims bodies were unrecognizable, which lead the police officers to think that these murders were caused by a wild animal. Measures had to be taken. They had no choice but to track the wild animal and take it down.

As Heta got to her desk, she put her cellphone to charge as it ran out of battery during the meeting.

"Thank you, sir. Can you tell me what's the license plate of the vehicle ?" she heard her assistant ask to the person on the other side of the phone.
