Aiyanna's parents rushed into their house, their faces as livid as mine must have been in Esme's point of view earlier. They were accompanied by Sam walking behind them, being the one who told them about their daughter's condition.

For the first time since Aiyanna fell asleep, I moved the members of my body and stood up to greet her parents.

"Good afternoon, Mr and Ms Brown." I said.

Aiyanna's mother briefly looked up at me to acknowledge my presence but quickly walked around the couch to kneel in front of Aiyanna to look at her daughter closely. Grabbing her left hand, she brought it to her own forehead while she sobbed. Her mind had made all sorts of scenarios in her head, fearing the loss of her only child. Despite her reserved character, she was in fact very fond of daughter.

Aiyanna's father looked over the couch to see her, and pressed his palm over her forehead.

What am I doing ? Of course, she'd be boiling hot - he thought to himself.

He then, looked up at me, his eyes wary. "Do you care to explain ?" he suggested.

I furtively glanced at Sam standing behind him.

I didn't tell them about your kind neither did I go into details about the newborns. Not my job - Sam answered to my internal question.

I nodded and exhaled. I was well aware that Aiyanna's father didn't appreciate me as he once did. Well to be fair, he's always appreciated my brothers more than he ever appreciated me. The reason behind it was simple : I was in an intimate relationship with his only child. The fact that I had the great idea to break up with her in the middle of the woods, didn't go in my favor either.

I was in no position to lie and come up with a story to hide the nature of our kind to him, especially if I planned to marry his daughter in the following months.

So, I unfolded the secret of our identity to him and the reason behind Aiyanna's condition at the moment.

I fell silent once telling him what he needed to know, while omitting details such as my mind reading gift or Alice's and Jasper's own gifts. It was to our advantage to keep these hidden from them. Besides, the mere fact of having to realize that we were vampires was hard to process enough.

To my surprise, Aiyanna's father first reaction was to laugh. Her mother, on the other hand, watched his reaction carefully as she's known about us for a year now.

Hakeem Brown has never looked like Aiyanna more than he did in this instant. Although my mate clearly took after her mother's physical trait, if there was one thing I could be certain of right now, it was that I fell in love with the female version of my soon to be father-in-law.

"Heta ! Do you hear what he's saying ?" Mr Brown asked his wife. Upon seeing her serious face expression, his laugh died down and his features fell serious. "You must be kidding." he then told me.

"For Aiyanna's sake, I wish I was." I answered.

Aiyanna's mother sighed. "So, everything that's been happening in Seattle was because of these young vampires ?"

"Yes."

"Wait, you believe him ?" Mr Brown checked, dumbfounded.

"Hakeem, I've known about this since last year. Aiyanna told me." Ms Brown answered, letting go of Aiyanna's hand to stand up.

Her husband's face muscles twitched at that revelation. "How could you have kept this hidden from me ?" he asked, disappointed. Quickly, he pointed his finger at Aiyanna who was still laying down, eyes closed. "So you mean to tell me that she dated him knowing about this ?"
