Edward was still there.

If there was one thing I could be certain of, it would be his presence.

Every cell of my body was going crazy, and I couldn't not notice the persistent warm feeling in my chest. Was this really what Sam felt around Emily all the time ? No wonder why they were so dependent on each other.

Having an imprint also ensured good nights I guessed. I would lie if I said that last night wasn't the best night I've had in a long time even if I slept on the couch.

From the living room, I could hear the morning voices of my parents talking to each other from upstairs.

They were awake, and yet Edward was still there ? He didn't intend to meet them today, did he ?

In doubt, I abruptly opened my eyes.

"I don't. I will leave but I won't be far." Edward said, bringing clarity to my doubts.

I froze when I realized that Edward was closer than where I left him last night. His face expressions were familiar. They reminded me of the ones I woke up to in a time when everything felt right.

As I parted my lips to speak, I could almost feel the white strings in between my lips which actually disgusted me. Not only that, but I was starting to get paranoid and thought of the huge eye boogers I probably had in my eyes.

Without a second thought, I pulled up the blanket over my head, wanting desperately to rush to the bathroom.

I heard Edward chuckle lightly while I secretly took out the boogers from the corners of my eyes.

"Why are you still here ?" I asked, annoyed.

The sound of his amusement stopped as he cleared his throat before he spoke. "There's a few things I want to tell you before I go." he answered. I stayed silent, waiting for him to continue. "First, my family and I are going to take turns around your house, in case someone shows up. If you need us to, we'll also keep an eye on your parents even when they are not home."

"Wait, what ?"

As if having the pack keeping an eye on me wasn't enough, I also had to have the Cullens around ? Why did it seem like I was even more helpless than I was while being human ?

"I am in no way saying that you can't protect yourself. I just feel uneasy knowing that you or your parents could get hurt by someone of my kind. I know it happened already..." Edward trailed off and I froze under the covers. He knew about Nana. "...and I am truly sorry. This shouldn't have happened."

"What are the other things you wanted to say ?" I asked, changing the subject.

"I listened to you last night and kept thinking about the difficulty you are going through because of the choice you've made that I respect entirely. I, myself, think of the imprint as something even more mystical than our species. But last night you said something that was utterly irrational."

I tried to remember what I said, but couldn't remember a single thing. Having my mind work as soon as I woke up just didn't work for me.

"You said that the imprint made me stay near you." Edward spoke again, bringing light to the darkness my mind was into. "Aiyanna, the only reason why I stayed is because I love you too much to walk away again."

I didn't understand. His words were different from the ones I remembered from the day he left me. He had made it clear that what happened with Jasper acted as the last straw that broke the camel's back.
