TWELVE THIRTY P.M

Around 12:30, the boys, minus Sam, left to get them and the girls, including Sam and Brenda, something to eat. On their way back up with the food, they stopped by the little store on the bottom floor and bought a few balloons that said 'It's a Girl!' and a big teddy bear with a white

T-shirt, which had the words 'I love Mommy and Daddy' on it. They took it back up to the room and Brenda laughed a little bit, but had to stop due to contractions. After everyone ate, except Brenda who said that the contractions hurt to much to eat, Sam helped her to the bathroom. She peed, and when she stood up, she felt liquid running down her legs. She had to hold on to Sam too, since she was having a really painful contraction. He helped her breath through it, and they both looked down at the puddle on the floor.

"I think my water just broke." She said, sounding sort of scared."Ah."She groaned as she had another contraction."It hurts Sam."She cried. He opened the door and called,

"Someone get Renee."He was trying to be calm, but he was freaking out on the inside. She came in and said,

"Yep. You're water broke! Come on." They helped her back to the bed. She had taken off her usual clothes off a little while ago, and had the hospital gown back on. Renee cleaned up the floor in the bathroom and stood in front of Brenda's bed.

"The anesthesiologist will be here in a few minutes for the epidural, and I'm going to check to see if you've dilated any more. But everyone except Sam will have to wait in the waiting room until I say other wise."She ushered them out and closed the door behind them, then checked Brenda.

"You're at 6 centimeters dilated! It won't be long now guys. Now that the amniotic fluid has leaked out, the baby's head will push up against the cervix, which helps you dilate faster."She took the gloves off, and sanitized, just as the anesthesiologist came in.

"Hi, Ms. Jackson. I'm sorry it took so long. Another patient was being very difficult." He said she as he came in, rolling a tray of tools.

"I don't care, just hurry up." She snapped, as she sat up like he asked her to. She put a pillow in front of her belly and leaned her head on Sam's shoulder.

"You'll probably have a couple of contractions during this."

"Okay." She whispered, looking at Sam." Please stay."

"Of course. I'm not going anywhere, B..."He whispered back. She grunted slightly as she had another contraction. He felt a few tears fall onto his shoulder, and the muscles in her thighs were tensing up with every contraction, so he ran both his hands up and down her thighs, massaging her there. As Dr. Nelson got the needle ready, she said,

"I'm sorry..." He couldn't believe that she was apologizing for being in labor.

"No, no, no, Brenda. Don't say you're sorry..." He tried to concentrate on her as the doctor did something with the foot-long needle.

"How much longer Sam?" She squeaked.

"I don't know baby, he's about done."

"How are you doing, Ms. Jackson?" Dr. Nelson asked.

"I've been better." She sort of laughed/cried. He smiled at Sam.

"I've got this in so you should be feeling relief shortly." In Sam's ear she whispered,

"Thank Jesus." He took a bandage and covered the area on her back where the epidural catheter was.

"Okay Ms. Jackson, you can sit up now." She sat up from Sam and actually smiled.

"It's working. I can't feel my knees." Her hands went to her stomach."I'm having a contraction now, and I can't feel it." Sam helped her back to lying on her pillows. Once comfortable in her bed, she told Sam,

"You can sit up here with me you know." He shrugged and sat next to her, letting her lay on his chest.

"Do you want me to bring them back in?" Renee asked. The two nodded. Everyone came in and sat where they were previously sitting. Before Renee left, she said,

"If I were you too, I'd try to get as much sleep as possible. You're both going to need it."Then left. Right on cue, Brenda yawned, which made her giggle.

"How're you feeling?" Chord asked

"Eh,"She said jokingly. Everyone laughed."The epidural did wonders. I can't feel my legs, or the contractions."

"Good."

"You were talking about lullabies a few days ago, right?" Quinn asked. Brenda nodded."Well, I just randomly thought about it, but it's called 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot'. My mom sang it to me when I was little."

"How does it go?" Sam asked. She made ashow of clearing her throat, making everyone laugh.

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

I looked over Jordan an what did I see

Comin' for to carry me home

A band of angels comin' after me

Comin for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

If you get to heaven before I do

Comin' for to carry me home

Tell all my friends I'm comin' there too

Comin' for to carry me home

By now, neither Sam or Brenda could barely keep their eyes open.

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

I'm sometimes up and sometimes down

Comin' for to carry me home

But stil I know I'm heavenly bound

Comin' to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin' for to carry me home

If I get there before you do

Comin' for to carry me home

I'll cut a hole and pull you through

Comin' for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin for to carry me home

Swing low, sweet chariot

Comin for to carry me home

Sam's head fell back slightly, and everyone knew they were knocked out.

"Was the song that boring?"Quinn asked quietly.

"No, I think it just helped them fall asleep, like most lullabies do." Brittany said smartly.

"It was actually really beautiful, Quinn."Rachel said, and they smiled at each other.

"I have a feeling that Sam will be singing that song to both Brenda and the baby."Everyone nodded in agreement.
