Farhaan

"Waise main kuch soch rahi thi, Faiz." Mama started. "Jis wajah se maine Farhaan ko bhi kaha tha ke nashta hamare saath yahaan aake kare aaj."

*"I was thinking something, Faiz."
"The reason why I asked Farhaan to come and have breakfast with us here today."

"Allah khair kare." Papa teased her.

*"God help us."

I smiled as I spread butter on toast.

"Faiz, I'm serious." Mama frowned.

"Go ahead, Anaya."

"As soon as Farhaan's wedding is done, I want to speak to Anabia about Faizan's rishta for Hooriya." Mama said with a smile.

I stopped chewing, my gaze frozen on my cup of coffee. Faizan was my twenty-eight-year-old brother. Although he had a good heart and was a good person in general, he tended to take life with a little too laid back attitude. Currently, he was an assistant manager at an events planning company.

"Bohat pyari bachi hai Hooriya. Ma Sha Allah. Aur Anabia ko to uske bachpan se jaante hain aap log. Family research ki to zaroorat hi nahin." Mama continued.

*"Hooriya is a lovely girl. Ma Sha Allah. And you all have known Anabia since her childhood. There's not even a need for family research."

"Bete ko thoda serious to hone do, Anaya." Papa voiced my thoughts. "We can't expect all the responsibility and maturity from the girl. Our son has a bit of a way to go before we consider his marriage... especially to a mature and wonderful girl like Hooriya."

*"Let our son become a little more serious, Anaya."

"Does Faizan want this?" I asked.

"He hadn't mentioned anything, no. It was just a thought that came in my head." Mama shrugged. "If Farhaan hadn't already chosen his life partner, I would have considered Hooriya or him."

I had to change the topic. "Sophie and her family has invited me for lunch today."

"Yes, Mr Khan called me and invited me and Anaya as well." Papa nodded. "Anaya and I both have important work at Anania Publishing today, so we won't be able to, but you definitely go ahead, Farhaan."

Anania Publishing had been founded by my parents because of Mama's and her after-marriage best friend Hania Hamza's love for writing.

"I performed an Istikhara." I blurted out. "And the reply I got was a negative."

A pin drop silence fell over the table. Papa looked at me with a thoughtful frown, while Mama's eyes widened.

"Oh, Farhaan." Mama spoke softly after a few moments.

"I'm so confused. I don't know what to do." I sighed. "I've been having this nagging feeling, which is why I performed Istikhara, but now it's like my doubts have been solidified."

"Doubts? I thought you loved Sophie. She's your choice, Farhaan. A choice we approve, but nevertheless your choice." Mama placed her left hand on Papa's forearm as she spoke.

"I know... which is why my confusion has vastly increased." I shook my head as if to clear my mind of my tangled thoughts. "I'm going to speak to her today."
