"Officer Chekov, do you have a moment?"

"Da."

"Yes."

You smile as you look up at your husband. You both may be married for over a year, but you cannot get over the fact that you now answer to your new last name. Pavel smiles back and nods for you to talk to the science officer as he turned back to his report. You got up and followed the officer out into the hall.

"I am sorry to pull you away from your work, but I was told you worked in the medical ward on a colony ship before you were stationed here, correct?"

You nod your head and place your hands behind your back. You worked with the newborns and pregnant women. But you decided to go into engineering once you transferred to The Enterprise.

The older officer smiled and nodded as if relieved. "That is wonderful news. See, we have a woman who is expecting soon and our nurse called in sick. We would be honored to have you work with us. I am afraid we do not have much time to let you think about it, but I just..."

You stop her by holding your hand up and smiling slightly. "It's alright Officer, I will report to Commander McCoy within the next few minutes. I will just have to let my husband know."

The Science officer smiled and let her shoulders relax. "Thank you so much (Y/n). You will be recognized for this; I will be sure of it." And with that she took down the hall as swiftly as she could without actually running. You raise your eyebrows and turn back to inform your husband of the change in plans. Looks like it's going to be him and the little one tonight.

"Knock, knock." You walk back into the room and sit back into your seat, rubbing Pavel's arm. He smiled and looked at you, placing a light kiss on your hand.

"What was that all about?" He asked as he finished up his last report and relaxed into his chair, crossing his arms and ankles.

You smile and lean forward to lean your elbows on your knees. "I have been asked to help in Med Bay. A woman is about to go into labor. So," you stand up quickly and grab him by his arm, pulling him with you to your shared living quarters, "that means it's you and Nathen tonight." You loop your arm in his, gently laying your head on his shoulder.

Pavel stops walking and places a hand on yours that rests on his arm. "(Y/n), don't you think it's a bit soon to leave me alone with him? I mean, he's only four months old." You can't help but smile at the nervousness you detect in his voice. You pat his arm and pull him slightly to walk forward, you really need to hurry to change and head to Med Bay. Before you change your mind about leaving Nate alone with Pasha. Not that you don't trust him, it's just your mothering instincts will kick in and you might just bring the baby with you. Being a new mother is harder when being away from the baby than it is being with the baby.

You enter your shared room and smile at the image before you. Your day nurse, Nurse Kelly, was sitting on a chair holding little Nate and feeding him a bottle. You quickly step forward and thank Nurse Kelly for her help and that you will see her tomorrow. Taking little Nathan in your arms, you cooed over the adorable little boy, loving the way his nose and eyes look just like his father's. Pavel walked over and lightly rubbed his little son's head as he snaked his other arm around your waist, giving you a gentle squeeze. You look up at him and smile, he leans down and kisses you softly.

"Do not worry Pasha, you will be alright with him. The worst he can do is blow out his dipper and you have dealt with that before." You laugh at your husband when he let out a groan and stepped away, opened his arms for his son.

"That's what I am worried about." You hand him Nathan and kiss them both on the cheek.

"I am just a communicator call away. You know where everything is. Love you, I will see you in a few hours." And with that you kissed him on the lips, caressed Nathan's cheek with your finger and then rushed off to change and head to the Delivery room.

"Alright little sir, what are we to do while your mother is gone. Hmm?" Pavel Chekov looked down at his new born son and marveled at the fact that you had him in your body just months earlier. He smooths the few hairs he has on his head, loving the soft feeling of baby soft skin under his fingers. This is his son. He helped create him. If you found out how sappy he was thinking about his son, Pavel was sure you would laugh at him.

Nathan looked up at his father and started to make small cooing noises. Pavel laughed and kissed his little cheek. A baby's toothless smile, tiny crinkled eyes and happy giggles can make any grown man feel like a puddle of emotions. Chekov yawned and looked at the time.

"I think I know what I want to do. You think you can go for a nap little sir?" Pavel tapped Nathan's nose and went to go find his sleeping blanket and stuffed animal. But Nathan wouldn't have it. He starts to fuss and Pavel starts to panic. Suddenly he remembers watching you rock him to sleep in your arms as you walked around. Taking a deep breath and thinking of the rest they will both get once he falls asleep, he starts to slightly bob on the balls of his feet, walking around the room.

After who knows how long, Nate stopped fussing and suddenly started to feel heavy. Pavel risks a look and stops moving. There in his arms, his posterity rests with the most peaceful look on his face. Pavel yawns again and, instead of putting baby Nate in his crib, he lays him down on the master bed. After slowly laying him down, Pavel takes a few seconds to change into something more comfortable and lays down next to his son.

"There you go little sir. Sleep well and when you wake mama will be here." He yawned one more time and let his eyes drift closed as he watched his son's little chest rise and fall.

"Knock, knock." You step into the room and look around for your boys. After a few moments of silence, you start to worry.

"Pasha?" You make your way into each room, making sure to prepare yourself for the worst. What of the smell of Nathan's poop finally did him in? You check the master room and stop in your tracks. Tears start to form in your eyes and you press a hand to your chest. The sight before you is truly one to behold.

Pavel lay on his back, his mouth slightly agape. One arm laying on his stomach the other holding the little bundle of joy you so badly wanted to see. His tiny head rests gently on his father's chest as his miniscule hands grasped at the blanket covering them both. Your boy's chests rising and falling in unison, peaceful faces lost in dream land. Pavel's tossled hair and your son's little hairs stood as proof to them being related. You let out a little giggle and wished you had a way to capture this moment forever.

You quietly took off your shoes and changed into night clothes, so desperately wanting to join the slumber party. You gingerly crawl on to the bed, careful to not wake them. You snuggle closer to your husband and reach across him to rest your hand on your son. Before sleep took you over, you looked at your boys one more time. You smiled and kissed Pavel on the cheek and laid against his chest, your smile never fading.
