Imagine Kai talking to you about his past and showing you a flashback of his childhood

Kai had quite a bad reputation in Mystic Falls. After all, he had murdered many people. Everyone in town despised him. Nobody really talked to him, let alone trusted him. According to the rumors, he was a sociopath who needed to be stopped. But no one truly knew Kai's personality nor what he had been through. People only saw the bad in him and they immediately assumed he was a horrible person.

You refused to believe it though.

You couldn't care less about what others said about him. You knew that he was capable of love, even if he tried to hide it. He was putting on an act and pretending like nothing mattered to him, but deep down inside, he was hurting. You could tell he was in pain. He suffered a lot throughout his entire life. He spent years in isolation, and it obviously deeply affected him. He grew used to rejection and solitude. His own family neglected and betrayed him. He never felt loved. All he ever wanted was to fit in and be accepted, but unfortunately, his parents secluded him from the world. Everyone thought he had no humanity, considering all the horrible things he had done, but they were completely wrong. He was simply hurt.

Your friends warned you to stay away from him, and yet, for some reason, you couldn't bring yourself to do so. There was something about him that attracted you. You were fully aware of how dangerous he could be, but you still took the risk and became his friend. You were actually his only friend.

He needed someone to rely on, someone who would give him the love he deserved, however, he was convinced that nobody cared about him.

But he was wrong. You did care about him.

Kai never expressed his feelings or talked about his past to anyone before. It was his weakness. He didn't want people to see this side of him. He was quite distant, and he never let people in, but that was until he met you. You were the only one who truly understood him. From the second you two met, he felt a strong connection with you and he instantly knew he could trust you. And today, he was finally ready to open up to you and pour out his heart.

"Are you sure you wanna hear this?" Kai asked you, plonking down on your couch.

"Yes." You replied, sitting next to him.

You flashed him a smile to reassure him. He took a deep breath and locked eyes with you.

"My father treated me like crap for 22 years. It's like his kids didn't even matter to him. He's never liked me."

"But why?" You questioned.

"I don't know, I guess I was just different. I had no magic unlike my siblings."

You nodded your head and motioned for him to continue his story.

"I was an abomination to my parents. I've always been the black sheep, the defective twin that nobody wanted." He said.

You could hear the pain in his voice. Each word coming out of his mouth made your heart ache.

"I meant nothing to my family. None of them cared about me. I-"

He stopped in the middle of his sentence and dropped his head down. You scooted closer to him and grabbed his hand, trying to comfort him. You had never seen him this vulnerable and miserable. You couldn't imagine how badly he must've felt during all those years.

"I'm sorry." He murmured.

"It's fine, Kai. Take all your time, I'm always here to listen." You said.

He smiled faintly, meeting your gaze.

"Close your eyes." He demanded.

You frowned, staring at him in confusion, but you did as he said nevertheless. He held your hand tightly and started to chant a spell.

"Open your eyes now."

You quickly looked around you, realizing you were in a different location. You scanned the room more carefully and noticed there was a young boy sitting in the corner, curled up in a ball. He was silently sobbing.

"Where are we? And who's that?" You asked, looking over to Kai.

"I'm showing you a flashback of my past. We're in my old house and this is me when I was 11 years old." He said, pointing towards the kid in the corner.

"Malachai Parker!" A man screamed, suddenly barging inside the room.

You immediately realized it was Kai's father.

He yelled at the little boy for no apparent reason, and he called him names. He belittled him, making him feel completely worthless. His words were brutal, but he didn't seem to care about his son's feelings. The boy didn't fight back. He just sat there and put up with his father's wrath. When the man finally left the room, the lad broke into tears. He rocked back and forth, crying hysterically.

The little boy then crawled into his tiny bed and held his teddy bear tightly against his chest, crying himself to sleep.

The flashback suddenly ended. In the blink of an eye, you were back to your house.

You stood there, taken aback. You couldn't help but shed a few tears. It was unbearable to see how much pain Kai went through during his childhood.

"What you saw happened on a daily basis when I was a kid." Kai stated.

"Kai, I'm so sorry." You breathed out.

He nervously bit his lower lip and quickly averted his gaze somewhere else.

"As you've seen, my father hated me. He was the one to send me in the prison world. I spent 18 years locked in there. I was all alone. It was torture. I had to relive the same day over and over again. There was no one to keep me company."

He paused and sighed deeply.

"I was a disgrace to my family so I guess I deserved all of this." He said, his voice cracking.

"That's not true, Kai. Nobody deserves this." You answered.

"After all, maybe my family was right. I am an abomination."

"You're not-"

"Yes, I am Y/N! That's why everybody hates me!" He yelled, interrupting you.

He let go of your hand and stood up from the couch, avoiding eye contact. You watched as he frantically ran his fingers through his hair and paced around your living room. He was clearly having a breakdown.

"You probably think I'm a monster. I mean, I did murder my siblings. Aren't you afraid of me?"

You walked over to Kai and hugged him tightly. His entire body instantly relaxed under your touch.

"I'm not afraid of you. People can say whatever they want, but I know you're capable of love. I care about you, Kai. Never forget that." You stated.

His eyes were brimming with tears.

"You do?" He asked, his voice barely audible.

You nodded. You placed your hands on his cheeks and wiped his tears away. He gazed into your eyes and pressed his forehead against yours. His chest rose and fell rapidly as you felt his breath against your neck. His soft lips grazed yours for a few seconds, and you couldn't help but smile.

"Thank you Y/N."
