You broke it off with Tommy. You broke it off, not him. You.
It was invigorating, fucking epic, heartbreaking but also very scarcely hurtful. You've never intended to be the one to break up with him; hell, you wanted to get married to that man! But something put you back and made you really reconsider everything.
To simply put it - you broke up with Thomas because this was all too much. Too much guns and money and enemies and. Just too much.
Finding a decent man wasn't hard, for goodness sake, your mother was absolutely joyful that you had broken things off with Thomas. She was buzzing and got all of the suitors she had wanted for you lined up.
Educated, well mannered, well dressed, and can handle her liquor? You were a fucking catch.
You decided to date the most suitable one for you. A respectable man by the name of William White, he was an animal doctor and a damn good one. He woo'd you with his charm, deep blue eyes and dark hair. He made you laugh so hard, your cheeks hurt, while somehow making your heart pang with a fevishly want for him.
You never quite understood the difference between a want, and a need when it came to who you loved. Your heart desired William, but your soul craved Thomas.
Someone so fragile and distant, you seemed to fantasize about. Whereas William was nothing but a thought to try to ease your mind.
"Doesn't that sound good, love?" His fingers tap your shoulder, bringing your eyes up from the menu to his.
The dim lit restaurant allowed his eyes to shimmer more intensely. You blush, Williams and absolute stunner. And he's kind and gentle and loving and caring. You can hear your mums nagging voice from behind you.
But she's right, Thomas only loved me when he had the time. And when he was awful busy, he was rarely around to love you the way you needed him.
"Huh?"
"The butternut squash ravioli, that sounds like something you'd like." He sends you a small, tight, reassuring smile.
Oh William, he's been nothing but good to you. And Lord knows more than anything that he's been there when others haven't because of the gangster you were once dating. Hell, some men ran away when they got word that you had dated Thomas Shelby and broke his black heart.
You eyes scan the menu, and without thinking you close it and smile. "Yes that sounds divine, actually."
He brought you out for a night in the town. William had a break from work and you had accomplished your nursing licences. You were ecstatic, and he was proud of you beyond belief. When you got home after passing your exam, your family had cake and balloons and presents. Your little sister had purchased the ruby red dress you have on, silky and stunning. Unlike anything you've ever worn.
You stare into his eyes as he stares into yours, he shuts his menu and puts his other hand against his cheek cupping it.
"How did I get so lucky with a gal like you?" He asks, and you blush. Unable to really help yourself.
He's just so handsome! You roll your thumb over his soft skin, intertwining fingers. "Sometimes, I ask myself the same thing-"
"Oh hello Y/N!" A voice that makes you want to run under the table and hide makes it way into your eyes and through your soul. You almost jump as your neck snaps in his direction.
Tall and mighty, overbearingly annoying and quite handsome. Arthur Shelby looks down at you with a thin straight lined lips. Not impressed, not awfully sad at all. If anything, he's quite disgusted.
