I took a shower and put on my undergarments, staring at the mirror. I traced my hand along the huge scar on my right leg. I shudder, memories of that day coming back to me. I shake them away, putting on a sweatshirt and leggings.

I stare at my phone, waiting for a text from Shawn. It's crazy how a wallet got me a new friend.  I guess wallets don’t provide only money but friends too.

Shawn: I'll pick you up
What's your address
Serenity: Um no It’s alright
I'll just walk there
Shawn: Are you sure?
It's no trouble really
Serenity: Yeah, it's not that far away
Thanks though
Shawn: I'll see you then
Serenity: K bye

I walked to the coffee shop, hands in my pockets as I scanned the small shop. It was another cold day, so there were a good number of people here, but not too many, which was good.

I spotted that brown curly hair, and I approached his table. When he noticed me, he got up,”Have a seat madame,”he joked, pulling out the chair for me like a real gent. Why though? He hasn’t known for long at all. Why is he so nice?

"Thank you kind sir," I say, making a curtsey as I sit. He chuckles at me, and we get a few stares from around, making my cheeks flare.

"So…," I say, fiddling with my fingers. "Where are you from?" He asked me, to which I replied, "Right here," and I smiled. He nodded, "I'm from Canada, though I already said that already." "Yeah, I like your accent," I say, smiling at him.

"You're here alone?", I ask him curiously. I don't mean to pry, but I can't help it. "Yeah, my family is up North, but, I, uh, just came to visit here, as I said before,” he said.

"Wait so you don't live here?" I ask him, "You told me you had an apartment with yourself?" I ask him, and he grew flustered.  “I came here for college silly,”he quickly says, the smile never leaving his beautiful face.

"Oh if you don't mind I ordered something for us," he says, smiling at me. Aww how kind. "Thank you, you didn't have to," I say gratefully to him. He gets up when they call his name and comes back with two coffees.

"I'm not sure if you like it, but it's my favorite," he says sweetly before placing the cup in front of me. I took a sip, and wow it was delicious. "Shawn this is so good," I gush, and he nods, "I know right?! It's my favorite coffee place here!".

It suddenly grew silent between us as if we had been put under some kind of silent spell. I look down at my milky coffee, stirring at it with a tiny plastic spoon. Who knew people made spoons so tiny?!

I continue looking down, not wanting to look at that gorgeous face with starry, beautiful brown eyes. He has admirable eyes filled with hope & something else I just can’t seem to figure out right now. I wonder what…

“So,”Shawn says, breaking the silence. I look up,”Huh,”I say unconsciously. “So..”Shawn repeats, "you know my hobbies, what are yours?,”he asks. I stared at him for a good second. "Hey that's not fair, I only know one of yours?!" I counter at him. “Okay, then, you got me there,”he surrenders playfully, "Okay, then, tell me one of your hobbies,”.

“Well,”I begin,”I love stalking people,”I joke.  “Like on instagram?,”Shawn asks,”No, like follow them in real life,”I say.  I couldn’t help but laugh at my own little joke which made Shawn crack up. People were glaring at us, Shawn realized & stopped, feeling a bit embarrassed. “But actually, what is your hobby?,”he asks. “I, um..I like Photography, I um, turn simple pictures & make them more expressive,”I explain, a bit insecure.

Shawn stares at me for a second before replying, "That suits you," he says, staring into my bluish-grey eyes. He was trying to figure me out, I could tell.

We sat in silence. "What?" I ask him as he stares at me. He blinks rapidly and quickly replies, "Nothing." Okay, that was a little weird.  “Well,” I smile,”I want to have one of those pastries,”I chime, quickly changing the mood, pointing at the table in front of us.

I call over the waitress,”excuse me, I’d like two of those mini cream pastries please,”I say. The waitress jots down the order, nods, & walks away. “Two?,”Shawn chuckles,”your that hungry?,”he asks teasingly. “No, silly, one for me & one for you, it’s on me,”I smile. “No, no, I’ll pay for it, your my guest,”he says. I stare at him,”I don’t remember this being an invitation,”I say.

“That’s not what I meant,”he nervously chuckles. “Oh, then, what did you mean? It’s on me & that’s final,”I conclude, smiling at him viciously. I won.

Not soon after, the waitress brings us two plates with the two tasty pastries. “Anything else?,”she asks. “No thank you,”I smiled, nodding her away.  The pastry was a work of art, I took out my phone & took a picture of it & put it into my Desserts album.

“Wow, you weren’t kidding,” Shawn says, taking a big bite from his pastry,”about what?,”I asked. “The photography,”he says with his mouth full. I start laughing noticing he had cream all over his mouth. “What’s so funny?,”he asks, I continue laughing & take out my phone.

I took a picture & showed it to him,”Oh my god,” he laughs. I pull away my phone & he gets defensive,”Hey! Delete that,”he says. I start laughing, shaking my head,”It’s art!,”I defend. “Art?,”he asks,”looks gross to me,”.

We both started cracking up so much that we got kicked out of the cafe. Even so, we continued on laughing. “You got us kicked out!,”I say, still hysterical. "Me?! This was all your doing!" he defends between chuckles. We were high on laughter..

I got a text from my mom, and I decided it was time to go home. "Today has been so much fun, but I'm sorry, I have to go," I say apologetically.

"Yeah no problem, I have some work in the studio-I mean, studying,”he quickly corrected himself. “Well, see ya!,”he quickly sputters while  smiling. Okay, that was a little strange? Maybe he’s just tired, well, I should be getting home before my mom freaks out like the last time...
