So life went on. I continued to spend time with Colby. He introduced me to his friends, Sam Golbach, Katrina Stuart, Brennen Taylor, Corey Scherer, Devyn Lundy, Jake Webber and Tara Yummy. They all welcomed me, and I even heard a few of the guys telling Colby how attractive I was. I was careful not to breathe much, as I was surrounded by their scents.
And as the days went by, I gave Colby hints at what I was. Just little, subtle things. Like when I touched his bare arm, he gasped at how cold my skin was. After longer than I expected, I knew he was suspicious. It wasn't until one particular night that he realized.
It was a Thursday night, and I was helping Colby prepare food for our friends that were coming over. I was helping cut some vegetables and I had just scraped the pieces onto a plate and was carrying them to the stove when Colby suddenly gasps.
"Fuck!"
I turn, then freeze, dropping the plate. It shatters on the ground as my fangs suddenly spring out when the smell of his blood hits me. Oh no. Oh fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. Salina had been helping me with my self control, but I had no idea if I could control myself if I smelled Colby's blood. It was so much stronger when he wasn't bleeding, and that was strong.
Colby turns to see the broken plate, holding his cut finger tightly. Then he looks up at me and gasps. He turns around to face me and backs up into the counter, gripping it with both hands, his blue eyes wide with fear and his heart pounding loudly. I flinched at the sight of him looking scared. Of me. His cut finger bled freely onto the counter and slowly dripped onto the floor.
I put my hands up. "Colby," I say quietly. "I'm not gonna hurt you."
"You-you're a-you're a-a vampire." He stutters.
"I won't hurt you." I tell him, taking a cautious step forward. Colby leans further away from me. "Colby, I had many chances to hurt you. I'm not going to hurt you."
He didn't move, nor did he reply.
I look at his hand. "You're going to keep losing blood the longer you stay there."
He swallows, then quickly glances at his hand, then back at me. He was scared to lose sight of me.
Keeping my eyes on him, I reach into the drawer beside the fridge and grab the small medical box. I open it and take out the large bandages. I set the box on the counter, then step closer to him. "If I wanted to hurt you, Colby, I would have already done it. I had many chances." I reach my pale hand out. "I won't hurt you."
He stares at me, then slowly and cautiously, he gives me his hand. I look at the cut. Thanks to my vampire eyes, I could easily tell it wasn't deep, but it was long. I take a wet towel from the counter and carefully wipe the cut. I press a bandage to the wound and wrap it. Then I let him go.
"I wouldn't have done that if I wanted to hurt you." I tell him.
He swallows. "I-I suspected, but I-but I didn't think-"
"That vampires are real?"
"There's more of you?"
"All over the world."
"But why haven't you-why haven't you... drank from me?"
I pause, turning to the broken plate. I clean it up before I answer. "Trust me, I wanted to."
"So why didn't you?"
"Because I grew attached."
Before Colby could ask another question, There was a knock at the door. Colby looked at the door, then at the blood on the counter. I look up at him.
"Mind if I clean this up before opening the door?" I ask. He opens his mouth to answer but I cut him off. "Great." In a flash, I clean the counter and free it of blood. Then I clean the floor.
Colby stares. "You're telling me more about this after." He says, then opens the door. Sam and Kat come by, and Brennen, Jake, Tara, Corey and Devyn.
Everyone had a good few hours. Eating, talking, drinking, and playing little games. After everyone left, Colby sat me down.
"Tell me everything." He says.
