I lick my lips, then take his hand and pull him, so that he was laying on top of me. He stares down at me. "You have to warn me when you do shit like that, Penny." He says.
I grin back at him, hearing his heart pound. Then I reach up and gently pull him down, where he lays. I crane my neck and feel my fangs slide out when I breath in his scent. "You're sure you want me to drink from you?" I ask him, nipping him with my teeth.
"Yes." He replies, breathlessly.
I open my mouth and sink my fangs into the soft skin of his neck, feeling his delicious blood flood my mouth. I only took what I needed, though I wanted so much more. I pull away and heal the bite, then push Colby over onto his back, cuddling into his side. He rests his arm over me, and we lay in silence.
"What do I taste like?" He asks, after a couple minutes.
I look up at him. He was watching me through tired eyes, but it seemed he wasn't tired enough to sleep even more.
"It reminds me of winter. Sitting in front of a fire and reading a good book with the person I love." I reply.
He smiles. "With hot chocolate?"
"I've never had hot chocolate."
He leans away from me to see if I was being serious. "You've never had it? How?"
"It wasn't a thing when I was human. It was actually first made the 1600s, after I turned. And it wasn't sold until around 1755."
"You sure do know your history."
"I was there when they first started selling it. I was there when America became independent from Britain. I was there for it all."
"But you still never had hot chocolate?"
"I've never needed to. I don't feel the cold."
He sits up. "You need to try it." He stands up. "You can eat food, right?"
"Yeah."
"Can you taste it?"
"I can eat food and taste it the same as you. I just don't need to eat food because my body doesn't take the nutrients from it the same as you."
"Then come on." Colby reaches out and takes my hand, pulling. I let him pull me up and out of the room, down to the first floor and into the kitchen. Then he sits me down and starts rummaging through the cabinets. He eventually finds a box of little packages and takes one out. Then he gets a mug and milk from the fridge.
"I personally like milk put in mine instead of water, but most like water." He tells me.
"You do you." I smile at him. I watch him as he makes the drink, mixing the powder from  the package into the milk and heating it up, before he sets it in front of me.
"Try it."
I take the mug, but before I could taste it, I hear footsteps from above me. I look up at the ceiling, my eyes following the footsteps. Then I hear someone coming down the stairs. I turn to the door way and a few seconds later, Sam, Kat, Corey and Devyn enter the room. Corey pauses at the sight of me holding the mug.
"Please tell me that's not filled with blood." He points to the mug.
Colby shakes his head. "It's hot chocolate."
Kat frowns. "I thought you can only drink blood." She tells me.
"I can eat food, my body just doesn't use it the same way as you." I reply.
"And she's never had hot chocolate." Colby says.
"What?" Sam asks. "Are you serious?"
"Hot chocolate wasn't a thing when I was human. It was first made in the 1600s, but it wasn't sold until around 1755. By then I didn't need to try it." I explain.
"So you're trying it now?"
"Yeah." I lift the mug to my mouth and take a sip. I didn't know what to expect, but certainly not how sweet and fulfilling it was. It reminded me a lot of Colby's blood.
"How is it?" Kat asks.
I look up at her. "It's, um... it reminds me of winter."
"Well, that is the time of year it's usually used." Corey says.
"I'm starting to wish I was human." I mutter, looking down at the brown drink.
