The day the Regime visits comes slowly. When they do come, I instruct Sam, Kat, Corey, Devyn, Jake, Tara and Brennen to wait in the biggest room. Colby, Salina and I wait out front while the rest of the clan was told to go out to hunt, patrol or have fun, away from the mansion. When they turn up, it was Ramses, accompanied by his two personal guards. The six of us make our way to Sam and the others.
"Ah, the Trap House is it?" He says. "And what are your names?"
I move closer to them. "This is Jake, Tara, Brennen, Corey, Devyn, Kat, and Sam is the newest." I introduce them, gesturing to each of them in turn. "Guys, this is one of the Regime, Lord Ramses." I change my tone slightly, letting them know to give him respect.
"Well, Penelope, you have followed our orders." Ramses says. "And do any of them acquire the likes of Colby?"
"No, my Lord." I respond.
"So the prophecy holds true." He replies glancing at Colby.
"Wait, wait, wait." Sam says, holding his hands out as everyone looks to me, silently asking for an answer to comfort their confusion. "What prophecy?"
Ramses turns to Sam, raising an eyebrow. "Sam, I'll explain later. Stand down." I tell him.
Ramses turns back to me. "Have you informed them of your leadership?"
"No, I haven't. I've been helping them adjust to their new life."
Ramses nods, then turns to everyone else. "As you have all known a little too much of us, I have had to hand down the task of turning you to this new life. Now, you will all join her clan. As she is leader, you will obey every command and complete every task given to you. If you believe this life is not the one for you, you may turn you back and live as a rogue." He says. Sam glances at me, but doesn't open his mouth. "Am I understood?"
"Yes." They chime together. Glancing quickly at Ramses, I clear my throat. Again, Sam looks to me. "Yes, my Lord." He says.
Ramses turns to leave, but stops to give me one last word. "I'd advise you to teach them some respect to the Regime."
I nod. "Yes, my Lord." He leaves, his guards right behind him.
"Penelope, what-" Kat starts, but stops when I hold a hand up. I could still hear Ramses in the mansion, and I don't drop my hand until I was sure he was gone.
"I'm sorry." I apologize. "I'm not that rude to anyone, but you guys have to learn that the Regime holds a lot of power, and will destroy this clan in the blink of an eye. Meaning that when they ask you a question, you say, 'Yes, my Lord', or, 'No, my Lord'."
"But what was that about a prophecy?" Sam asks, frowning.
"When Colby first learned of his power, I had Salina find anything she could about it." I say. "Like Colby told you a few days ago, the Regime has a mental power, able to see into your minds with a simple touch. Only the Regime has that power, as it's so ancient. No vampire, since the first seven Regime, has ever had it. Until Colby. And even then, his power is stronger. He can see into anyone's mind. He doesn't have to be touching you or holding eye contact. Later, Salina came to me saying she found a prophecy. It was created from the flames of an Indian made fire, at the beginning of man."
"What's the prophecy say?" Devyn asks.
"'He, who is born into arctic, thousands of years into recorded time, damned but altruistic, he will lead others into prosperity, with potent powers unknown'."
"'Potent powers unknown'?" Corey asks, looking at me quizzically. "Does that mean what Penelope said? You can see into people's minds without touching and that shit?"
"We don't know." I  reply. "This has never happened before. Even the Regime is confused about it. They didn't even know there was a prophecy."
"How?" Tara asks. "They're like the government, aren't they?"
"They're are only four." I say quietly. "The original Regime was seven, not four. The first Regime member, the oldest was there when the prophecy was made. He was the one the Indian told. If the rest of the Regime didn't know about the prophecy, he probably didn't tell them."
"But you said it was passed down generation to generation of Indian and vampire alike." Colby says.
"I read more about it." I reply. "It was passed down, but not to the rest of the Regime."
"How are there four Regime now, when there was seven originally?" Kat asks. "Did they kill each other?"
"Not exactly. Back before time was recorded, the rest of the vampire world knew of the Regime's mental power, like today. Some vampires grew jealous that they didn't have that same power, and believed that if they killed a Regime member, they'd get their power. Three of the original Regime died, including the one who knew of the prophecy, but four remained. And because of it, they have body guards now."
