"What took you so long?" I ask as Colby enters the room. I had expected to him to be back much earlier.
He looks up. "I was hanging out with them."
"Ah," I lay back onto the bed, closing my eyes as he slides in next to me. "I just thought you'd be back sooner."
He chuckles. "I wish I did. I'm so tired."
I roll over onto my side to see him already watching me. "Sleep, then feed when you wake up."
He closes his dark blue eyes and sighs, then opens them. "Maybe." He moves closer to me and rests his arm over my waist, and we both fall asleep within minutes.
When we wake up, the sun was setting. It was still quiet, so everyone was probably still asleep. Colby was still out, laying on his stomach with one arm hanging off the bed, the other over my chest. He was faced away from me, and I actually had to move his arm off me and lean over him to see his eyes fluttering because he was so still. Shaking my head and grinning at his cute self, i get up and quietly change before heading downstairs to get ready to hunt. I still didn't like the blood bags, so I frequently went out to get fresh blood.
As I was pulling on my black leather jacket, I hear a voice behind me.
"You've always looked hot in that."
I spin around, then sigh in relief when I see it was only Colby. I shake my head. "How were you so quiet?"
He shrugs. "I've been working on it."
I raise an eyebrow. "Oh, have you?"
"Salina hates it when I sneak up behind her." He smiles.
"I wonder why." I mutter sarcastically.
"Are you going to hunt?"
"Yeah." I reply. "You should come with me." I add, eyeing how how dark his eyes were.
"I probably should." He runs back upstairs and comes back down, wearing a jacket. "Where are we going?"
"Southern border. We're going to patrol, too." I open the door. "Stay with me, and do what I say. We don't want accidents. Okay?" He nods, his eyes flickering to the darkness. I turn and run out, Colby right behind, all the way to the southern most part of our border. He follows me into a little alley between two small buildings. We stop halfway down, and I turn to see that it was dark enough that no one would see us. I turn back to the street, looking around. "Wait here." I say.
I step out onto the street and immediately notice two blond girls walking down the street, loaded with shopping bags. I roll my eyes. Typical. I rush over, and grab them, pulling them into the alley before they could even yell out. I pass one of the girls to Colby, who takes her and bites down on her skin as he sits down. The girl goes limp as I do the same to mine.
I sink down to the ground next to Colby, holding the girl carefully. Within minutes of feeding, I was full. I lift my head to look at Colby, who still was feeding. Was he in the sun at the Trap House?
As if Colby could sense me watching, he opens his eyes, which were back to it's original light blue. He drops the girl from his mouth. "What?" He asks.
I shake my head. "Nothing." I reply, smiling. He raises an eyebrow. "You're just really hot."
"Am I?" He says as if he was merely stating it. "Not compared to you."
I grin and look down at the girl in my arms. I lean down and lick my bite, healing it. Then I look back at Colby. "You were hot when you were human. Now you're so much better." He smiles, then leans in and presses his blood-covered lips against mine, and I savored the flavor.
Suddenly, we both jerked apart, staring, as a shriek filled the air.
