"Penelope? Are you alright?"
I look up, my hazel eyes meeting Colby's blue ones. I nod and sigh. "Just been a... busy night."
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
I fix a questioning stare to Colby. "Are you asking because you want to know more about vampires?"
He shrugs. "Can you blame me?" I smile. At least he wasn't lying about it.
I lean back on my hands on the floor where we were sitting. "That night we kissed, I came back to my clan. I was almost exiled."
"What?" Colby asks, sounding surprised. "Why?"
"Because of you." I reply. "I'm a vampire. What I am is not to be known by humans. And I endangered not only myself and my clan, but every vampire in existence."
"Just because one human found out?"
"I challenged my leader."
"To stay?"
"I became a traitor the moment you found out about me. The only way I would have been able to stay in the clan is if I challenge my leader and win a fight to the death." I explain.
Colby leans back. "Well, you're here, so you must have won."
I shake my head. "The fight never happened."
"How come?"
I tilt my head to the side, watching him with a small smile. "You humans are quite curious."
"Or maybe just some of us." Colby replies, holding a finger up.
I laugh. "Or maybe it's because you and Sam are all into the supernatural." Colby only grins. I lick my lips and look down, careful not to sigh and breathe his scent in. "It never happened because Salina defended me."
"Who's Salina?"
"Some say she's my sister, but she's a hundred years younger than me. She's really the only one who can tear my walls down."
"So, Salina fought your leader?"
"No." I answer. "She reasoned with him. Told him stuff as to how you found out."
"Such as?"
"She said-" I suddenly stop. Did I want to tell him?
Colby raises his eyebrows and leans in. I glance at him pointedly and lean back. "Sorry." He mutters, leaning back.
"Sometimes it seems like you want to be bitten." I say. Then I clam my mouth shut. Damn it.
Colby's eyes widen. "Bitten?" He then adopts a very curious expression. "What's it feel like? Does it hurt?"
I bite my lip. "No."
"What's it feel like?"
"Why do you want to know?"
"I like supernatural things. It makes me curious."
I stare at him. "Have you told Sam?"
Colby frowns. "Did you want me to?"
"No." I say. "But if I'm going to be hanging out around Sam and Kat and Corey and everyone else, they're going to need to know. So that they're a little more careful."
"What do you mean?"
"My senses are much more stronger than humans. Especially my sense of smell."
Colby pauses. "You can smell their blood."
"Yes." I say. "When I first smelled Sam, I could tell he was going to be sick with the flu pretty soon."
Colby's eyebrows furrow. "He got sick. Soon after you met him." I nod. "You can tell that just by smelling someone?"
"I can learn a lot about someone just by smelling them."
"Sam would be so excited to learn all of this."
"I  want them to know."
Colby's mouth falls open. "You want them to know? What about your clan? Your leader? Won't you be exiled?"
"I'm stronger than my leader. That's one of the reason's I'm second in command. I'll win."
"Then what? After you win."
"If I win, I'll be leader. Then I can make the decision on whether I want you or Sam or anyone knowing."
"But what about your clan mates?"
"I'll be leader. They'll have to listen to me. Or they can leave."
Colby leans back, his eyes wide. Then he leans back forward. "You still need to tell me what it's like to be bitten though."
