We go to my room, talking and laughing, and Salina hurries ahead of me and opens my door, grinning. I smile back at her, but it falters when I look past her into my room, at a heap on the floor. Salina frowns, and turns to look, then gasps. I walk in the room, my eyes never leaving the body. I crouch down next to the burnt body, with the un-charred, but decapitated, head laying next to it. I reach my hand out and pick up the head.
"Is that Colin?" Salina asks.
I don't answer, but I drop the head and look over the body. Everything was burned beyond repair. Colin was dead. I lift one side of his blackened jacket when I notice something unmistakably white. I pull out the white object and see that it was a piece of paper, warm to the touch. I open the folded paper.
"'Leave or more die. Your choice.'" I read out. I lick my lips and look up to Salina, and for the first time ever, I felt scared.
"Micheal?" Salina asks.
"Seems to be." I answer, looking back down at Colin. "He's the only one with the motivation to kill someone from this clan."
"We have to let the clan know. We can't afford to lose anyone else."
"I know."
"Does the Regime know about him?"
"They were notified. Whether they're going to do something about it, I don't know. But all I know is that they know and they're discussing it."
"Do you know what they think about it?"
I shake my head. "No, I don't. They should be contacting me soon though."
After Telling my clan about Colin's death and telling them to be more cautious and alert, I warn them against going anywhere without at least one other vampire. I voiced my worries of how little vampires were a part of my clan to Salina, and she took it upon herself to contact the Regime, asking for permission to create more. I visited Colby everyday, just to make sure he was okay and unharmed. It was about a week after Colin's death that I finally heard back from the regime.
I was in my room with Colby, just talking about random things, when I heard footsteps outside my door. I hold up a hand to stop Colby from talking and I look to the door. "Come in."
The door opens and Salina comes in, followed by another vampire wearing a black hooded cloak. My first thought what the vampire 'Kings' from Twilight that Edward had asked to kill him when he thought Bella had killed herself. I stand up and give a short bow. I knew this wasn't any of the Regime, but one of their Messengers. Still, they had a lot of respect.
"I didn't know you'd be in the company of a human." The Messenger tells me. He had an airy voice, but aged with years of life.
"He can stay." I reply.
"I was told you had found your One," He says. "So I'm assuming this is him?"
"Yes."
The Messenger nods. "The Regime would like you to know that you are given permission to acquire more assets, only to the limit of doubling. And as for the rogue, we do not know his whereabouts, but we will deal with him when we do."
Well this was not what I was expecting. But instead of voicing it, I just nodded. "Anything else?"
"No." He replies. "Although, where is a good spot to hunt? I've been travelling all day and I'm famished."
"Just south of here." Then he leaves. I sigh and sit back on the bed.
"You asked to make more vampires?" Colby asked.
I nod. "Just less than half of the clan left with Micheal. And then Colin was killed a week ago."
"Someone was killed?" Colby's voice was filled with surprise. "Wait, how big was your clan before they left?"
"We had about fifteen to twenty vampires." Salina answers. "Then James was killed, Micheal left and about eight of his followers left with him. Now Colin's dead. So we have seven vampires in the clan, including Penny and me, so nine."
"And you need that number doubled now."
"Yes." I say. "Where we're going to get nine other people, I don't know. Vampires aren't supposed to be known about by any human."
"But I'm human."
"Other than a vampire's mate."
Colby pauses. "How are you going to get them? I mean, how are you going to change them?"
"We've done this before." Salina replies. "We usually just trick them into coming here, bute them, then explain after."
"Might sound harsh, but it works." I say, noticing Colby's frown.
