I go back to the mansion later that day, to find Salina pacing my room, looking worried. When she sees me, she stops pacing.
"Penny, he contacted me." She bursts out.
"Who?"
"Micheal." She says. "He said he wanted to talk with you."
"How did he contact you? What does he want to talk about?"
"He left a note." She holds up a piece of paper, and I take it.
'Meet at the southern most border, midnight tonight, unless you want to lose more clan members. Come alone. -Micheal' The note read. I sigh.
"Are you going?" She asks me.
"I have to, don't I?" I say, holding up the paper. "I'm not risking their lives."
"Okay, but before you go, what is that smell?" Salina asks, frowning. "It smells chocolaty."
"Colby had me try hot chocolate because I've never had it."
"That explains it. Well, as for the note, you should go soon if you want to be on time."
"I'm not going alone." I say, rereading the note. "You and four others will come with me, but you will stay back, out of sight. He would do the same thing." I look up. "Got it?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Good." I turn and call out four other random vampires. I tell them the same thing, then we head out. We run to the closest part of our border and follow it south. Then we stop. I leave them about a block away, making the rest of the way alone. When I look up, I see Salina leading them up to the top of the buildings, to watch over. I round the corner, into an open area surrounded by taller buildings. And in the middle, stood Micheal.
He hadn't changed. His chestnut brown hair was as untidy as ever, his merciless brown eyes on me. "I thought I said to come alone?" He says quietly.
"You clearly thought you'd have an advantage, didn't you?" I reply, nodding to the tops of the buildings behind him, where about three or four, maybe five other vampires stood, watching. His calm expression doesn't change. "What did you want?"
"Just thought I should tell you a little something you might find interesting." He says, touching his hands together as he moves to circle around me.
"And that would be?" I don't take my eyes off him. Silently, I pray Salina and the others were keeping their eyes on Micheal's friends.
"Your little human boy. Colby, was it?" He says, earning a growl from me. He stops, raising an eyebrow. "Might want to tame that temper of yours or I might just let one of my friends loose on him."
I stop, glaring at him. "What about him?"
"I've been watching him lately." He continues, circling me again. "Lives with six other humans? Three story house, near the mansion?" He eyes me, watching for any sign of a sudden attack. "Bedroom on the top floor? Sound familiar?"
"You leave him alone." I growl. "If you want to control my clan, then deal with me. He has nothing to do with this."
"Oh, but he does." Micheal laughs. "See, I don't want to just kill you. I want to torture you. And the only way to do that is get your human. Hurt him, hurt you."
"Why?" I ask. "Why do you want to hurt me?"
"You killed my One." He says, so quietly that I'm sure I only heard.
"Who?"
"Doesn't matter, does it?" He snarls. "You killed her, now I want revenge. I want to hurt you just as bad as you hurt me. I want you to feel what I felt when you killed her. I want you to watch as I kill him, just as you killed her."
"Micheal," I say. "Who?"
"You wouldn't have known her. You never cared who you killed or fed from as long as you got what you wanted."
I pause. "Fine. Was this all?"
He smiles evilly. "Go back to your human. I'm sure you'll want to spend as much time with him as possible before I get to him."
