"Who?" Colby asks, sounding worried. "Who's outside?"
I shake my head. "They're not human. It's a vampire." All I could hear was footsteps on the leaves. I heard no heartbeat or breathing.
"How many?"
"One." I say. "There may be more, but I don't hear them."
"What are you two talking about?" I look up. Everyone was watching us.
"A vampire's outside." I tell them, making sure my voice could only be heard by them. "All I can hear is one. I'm not sure is there's more."
Sam's expression changed to worry. "Are you sure?" He asks. "Are you sure it's a vampire?"
"No human can stop their heart and still live." I reply. "It's a vampire." I stand up. "Stay here." I run out, quickly checking around the house. I didn't see anything. Then I stop dead when I hear yells from inside. I turn and run back inside, stopping at the scene in front of me. Sam, Corey, Jake, Brennen, Kat, Devyn and Tara were against the walls, looking terrified. Devyn was crying in fear as Corey held her. In the middle of the room, tightly holding Colby, was Micheal. One hand was holding him around the throat, the other holding his hands behind his back.
Micheal smiles at me. "Well, hello, there." He says.
"Let him go."
"And why should I do that?" He asks, cocking his head to the side. "I waited so long to see him." He smells Colby's neck. "And my, my. He does smell good."
I step closer. "Don't you-"
I stop when Micheal flashes his fangs. "Careful, Penelope. Or I might bite."
I lick my lips, desperately looking for a way to get Colby away from Micheal, unharmed. "Look, I'm sorry about Martha. I had no idea she was your One."
Micheal's eyes flash dangerously. "Don't say her name." He snarls at me. "You killed her so easily. Like she was nothing." He looks to Colby. "Maybe he'll be just as easy to kill." He looks back at me. "Should I kill him the way you killed her? Should I drain him, and leave you his body?"
"I had no control!" I say, getting more desperate and frustrated. "Blame James. He kept me too busy to feed for three weeks. I lost control."
"I only blame you." Micheal replies. "You could have just left her."
"And you can do the right thing. I messed up. I admit it. But you can do the right thing." I take a chance and step closer.
Micheal tightens his grip on Colby, making him yelp. I stop. "Don't move, or I kill him." He threatens. "I had James give you the most dangerous tasks, hoping they'd kill you. But somehow you managed to worm your way out of every problem. Now, I have a better way."
I step closer again. "Micheal-" But I stop again when Micheal suddenly bites down into Colby's neck.
I don't lose time. With a yell, I launch myself at them, wrenching Colby away from Micheal. Micheal stumbles, and I hear a crash behind me. Kat and Devyn scream, but I ignore them.
Micheal shakes his head, then lunges for me. I drop to the ground, and grab his shoulders and kick my legs up, flinging him over me, where he lands with a thud into the wall, leaving a hole. He gets back up, and grabs me, pinning me to the ground. I snarl at him, sounding very much like a wild dog, and bring my leg up between his legs. Even though he was undead, it stunned him, but didn't hurt him as much as it would've if he were human. I push him off me, and crouched on the ground between him and Colby.
Micheal lunges again, growling, and I run at him, colliding into him with a loud crack. I reach my arms up and take his head, holding tight as I bring my legs up, so that I was holding onto him. He stumbles around, trying to get me off. He manages to grab hold of my chin, pushing up and I pull up on his head.
Then, with a sickening crack, his head comes off. His body goes slack, and I fall to the ground. I throw Micheal's head to the side.
"Colby! Colby, say something!" I look to my side, and my stomach drops.
