Colby glances at the knife.
"Do you want me to do it?" I ask. "All you will feel is a slight sting."
He nods, swallowing nervously. I hold the knife steady and hold my other hand out for his. He raises his arm and I grab his wrist, before gently pressing the sharp blade to his skin. Then, using my vampire speed to lessen the pain, I pull it away, leaving a thin, pink cut that oozed blood. He gasps. I held my breath, then used the same knife to cut my wrist. Black-red blood pours out. Colby stares at it, his blue eyes wide. I swipe at my blood, gathering it up and I press it to his cut.
Colby's reaction was almost immediate. He gasps and tries to pull away, but I hold him still by holding my hand over his cut.
"Colby, listen to me. It'll be over in a minute." I tell him. He bites his lips, staring at me. He grunts in pain and his breathing increased rapidly. "It'll be  over in a minute." I watch him as he takes the pain as quietly as he could. Finally, he breathes out, looking tired. I look down at his wrist and see my fingers covered in his blood. It was the same bright red colour, so I know that his body had taken my blood. "How do you feel?" I ask him.
"'M tired." He says, sighing and closing his eyes. "But I feel stronger than I've ever felt."
I smile. "Good." I sniff the air. His blood now smelled slightly different; a hint of me. "Your body now has my blood, so you will feel stronger. You also smell a little different."
He opens his eyes. "Still good?"
"Yeah, you still smell very mouth watering."
"Was it difficult when you cut me?"
"I'm technically dead. So I don't need to breathe. We just do it because it helps us with smelling and it's a habit from our human lives."
"So you held your breath."
"Yes." I say, looking up. "Do you want this healed?"
His eyes flick down to it. "How?"
I just grin and lean down, swiping my tongue across the cut, making it disappear like it was stitched together and the string was pulled. All that was left was blood. I look up at him to see his wide eyes. Then he looks up at my face.
"You can heal?" Was all he said.
"Vampire saliva is really the only good thing about us. That's why we were killed so long ago. We were dangerous. But if a human caught us, and captured us long enough, they would take our spit and burn us."
Colby pauses, looking down. "That's... creepy." Then he looks up. "Does my blood still taste the same?"
"Mostly." I answer, letting him go and standing up. I move to sit beside him. "You still taste the same, but just a hint of vampire blood. Trust me, it'll keep other vampires from feeding off you." I shrug. "Except me of course."
"Do you like feeding off me?"
"Why wouldn't I? You're my Scented One."
He frowns. "I still don't really understand what that means."
"Think of it like this. If I was human, and a drug addict, and you put me in a room with a drug and food, I would always go for the drug. Right?"
He nods. "I think so. But wouldn't you also go for the food too?"
"Not before the drug. If I was a drug addict, I'd go for the drug, then the food." I say. "You would be the drug and other humans would be the food. So, because you're my Scented One, I'd go for you, before other people."
"Okay, now I get it." He says. "But how is my blood different?"
"Everyone's blood is different. Scientifically, of course." I reply. "But to a vampire, all blood smells and tastes about the same. And, on a narrower scale, to a specific vampire, only one human smells and tastes so different."
"And I'm that one human to you."
"Exactly." I sigh. "I might not believe in the legend of the One, but I certainly believe you are my Scented One."
"What would make you believe?"
I pause before answering. I knew exactly what would make me believe, but was I willing to go there to make it real? "Your death."
