Corey laughs. "There's no way. Vampires aren't real. Everybody knows that. This is a prank."
"If vampires aren't real, or if they never were, then where did all the myths come from?" I ask. "There had to be some truth behind all the myths, right?"
"Think about it, dude." Sam speaks up. "She's pale. She's never eaten in front of us. She's more intelligent than anybody I've met."
"But it doesn't make sense." Corey says. "I mean, she's been in the sun. She sleeps. There's no way she's a vampire."
Salina and I laugh. "Vampires can be in the sun. It just makes us drowsy and thirsty. And we sleep. We usually sleep during mid day, when the sun's highest." I say. Corey opens his mouth, seeming at a loss for words and struggling to make this not real. "Do you need proof?"
"I don't believe this." Jake says, looking around. "Where's the camera?"
I glance at Salina. "Help me grab their keys from their pockets." I say, quietly. She grins and we both zoom around and then stand in front of them, holding all their keys. To them, it looked like we just disappeared from the couch and appeared standing in front of them. They all stare, and Salina and I laugh at their dumbfounded expressions as they realize what we're holding.
Corey looks down at his pants and reaches in his pockets, pulling out only his phone. "How did you-" He checks his pockets again. "How did-what?"
"Told you, dude." Colby says, leaning back. "They're vampires." I toss him his keys, which he catches, stuffing them back inside his pocket as I sit beside him.
"Can I have my keys back?" Sam asks. Salina tosses them back to him.
"If we weren't vampires, how would we have taken all of your keys at roughly the same time, without any of you noticing?" Salina asks, sitting down.
"Do you have fangs?" Jake asks. "Or is it like in Twilight, with no fangs."
Salina growls next to me. She hated that movie more than I did. "We have fangs." She says.
"Can you show us? I mean, Colby already seen them, but none of us have." Sam asks.
"What do you mean Colby's seen them?" Kat asks.
Colby raises his hand to scratch the back of his neck. "I may or may not have let her feed from me." He says.
"You're joking." Corey says as Devyn and Kat gasp. Jake and Tara stare at him wide eyed. "Tell me you're joking."
"What's wrong with it?" He asks, frowning and sounding a little hurt.
"You haven't even known her long. And you let her feed from you? Vampires are known to be the Devil's children. She could change you."
I frown and Salina growls again. I hold my hand up, stopping her. "Corey, I assure you, he wasn't harmed in any of the times I've fed from him." I say. "And, yes. We are known as the devil's children, but that only came from Christians who needed something to blame for vampires existing."
"Any of the times you've fed from him? You've fed from him more than once?"
"She can't exactly help it." Salina replies haughtily, rolling her eyes.
I send her a warning glance before turning back to Corey. "He asked." I say. "Now, I'm not trying to blame him, just stating the truth. I never wanted to feed from him in the first place, but he insisted."
"Are you insane?" Corey asks Colby. He turns to me. "You could've turned him."
"That would have been very difficult." I answer.
"How?" Tara asks.
"I would've had to bite him, not feed from him."
"I don't see how that would be difficult." Kat says.
I sigh. "Think of it like this. Everyone has a favourite ice cream flavour, yes? Now, metaphorically speaking, every human has a certain flavour of ice cream slash blood. To a vampire, any blood would satisfy them, because it's blood. Or ice cream. But Colby's blood is my personal favourite flavour of ice cream."
"So you have a hard time stopping when you taste him." Tara says.
"Yes." I nod. "That's why it would be difficult for me to change him. Unless another vampire did it."
Salina laughs. "And I don't think any vampire would want to."
"What do you mean?" Kat asks.
"Penelope marked him."
"Marked him?" Jake asks. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"I mixed a little of my blood into his. It's a sort of protection." I reply. "See, when I do that, another vampire could smell him, but they'll smell a little of me, and stay away. Vampires don't exactly like other vampire blood."
"It hurt like a bitch." Colby mutters.
"That's some dark magic witchy satanic shit right there." Corey laughs.
"Wait, vampires have blood?" Sam asks, leaning forward.
"Do you wanna see?" Salina asks, giggling.
"I wanna see the fangs." Jake says.
I move my tongue over my fangs, which were starting to peek out. Colby sitting so close to me wasn't helping.
