"He broke so many things the first week." Salina giggles. "Whether it because he was pissed off or getting used to his new strength, he broke so many things."
"I can't imagine the bill." Kat says, raising her eyebrows.
Salina shrugs. "It wasn't much."
"Are you guys always so cold? Like stone?" Brennen asks. "And you felt like a statue, Colby."
"We're technically dead, Brennen." Penny says. "so yes, we're always cold. And we're stronger. Our muscles are harder, so we feel like statues."
"Do we feel hot to you guys?" Corey asks, laughing.
"Not really. You guys feel normal, just a little warmer than usual." I say.
"What about each other? What do vampires feel like?"
"Normal." I reply.
"Wait," Jake suddenly says. "Do you guys get sick?"
"Not really. We don't get sick, like fevers or colds. But we do throw up sometimes if we drink from blood bags long enough." Penny says.
"You would know." Salina says, grinning.
"I didn't want to kill him, Salina. You know that."
Salina waves her off. "Yeah, yeah."
Penny rolls her eyes as Sam steps closer to me. He holds his arms out and I step forward, letting him hug me. I make sure not to breathe. "I missed you, brother." He says. I smile and wrap my arms around him. "Colby, ease up."
I loosen my grip on him, feeling like I wasn't even holding him at all. "Sorry." I say, letting him go.
"You are a lot stronger than I thought you'd be." Sam replies.
I reach my hand up and scratch behind my head. "I'm still getting used to it."
Sam laughs. "Don't worry about it." Then he holds his arms to each side of him. "Well? What do I smell like?"
I pause, then look back at Penny, wondering if she'd think it was too dangerous. Instead, she nods, surprising me. I turn back to Sam and sniff him. Then I suddenly lean back. I look back at Penny.
"How could you be around them so long?" I ask her, stepping back.
"Control." She says.
Sam drops his arms. "Is something wrong?" He asks. Behind him, Kat takes his hand.
I swallow, licking my lips. "No, you just... smell really good."
Sam looks at Penny, but she was watching me. Making sure I wouldn't hurt them. I grit my teeth as Brennen step closer. "What about me?" He asks. "Or would that be a bad idea?"
"Colby should have a chance to try to get used to your smells. Just be patient and don't force anything. We don't want anything to happen." Penny says, answering Brennen's question.
Brennen turns to me and I give him a sniff. He smelled very similar to Sam, but different.
"Do I smell good?" He asks.
I nod. "Very."
Pretty soon though, Penny told us that us three vampires had to get back to the mansion. When asked why, she said that we had visitors coming that night. So we said our goodbyes and left, running back to the mansion.
It was around mid-day, and running around in the sun made me tired. Penny took me into her room and we both crashed, falling asleep pretty quickly.
I was shaken awake a few hours later, and when I opened my eyes, the first thing I noticed was that it was dark. I roll onto my side and see Penny looking down at me, smiling. I close my eyes, shaking my head, before grabbing her by the waist and pulling her over me, so that she was laying by my other side. She yelps as I grab her, then slaps my arm.
"Colby!" She exclaims.
"Now you know what it's like when you do that." I reply, pulling her closer.
She just shakes her head. "Well, is this new life everything you thought it'd be?"
"Not really, but I have you, so I'm not complaining." I answer. I pull back and smile at her. "I love you."
"I love you too, Colby." She says, then she kisses me. "We have visitors coming soon. So come on, get ready."
I groan as she sits up. "Do I have to?" I whine, rolling onto my stomach.
I hear her laugh. "Yes, considering they want to talk to you." She then brings her hand down on my ass, and I turn my head, glaring at her.
"What do you mean they need to talk to me? Who is it? What do they want to talk about?"
"The Regime." She says. "One of them is going to be here soon. They want to talk about your turning."
