I laugh at Kat's scream. "Holy-!" Sam exclaims, jumping.
"Oh my god, Colby." Corey says, his eyes wide. "You scared the crap out of me."
"You just like suddenly appeared." Jake says.
Kat then reaches over Sam and gives me a playful slap on the arm, but like everything else, I barely felt it. Apparently Kat felt it a lot more than me because she pulls her hand back, holding it. "Ow, you feel like a rock."
I laugh. "And I do still live here, Corey." I say, turning to him. "I just couldn't be around you guys for a while."
"Will you continue to live here?" He asks.
I pause. "I don't know." I say. "I'm part of Penny's clan now. I have things to do. If I did live here, not only would it be dangerous, but I wouldn't be here much."
Sam sits up. "You're part of her clan now?"
"Yeah. One of the Regime guys-"
"Regime?" Jake asks.
"They're the oldest vampires. They're basically like our government." I explain. "One of them came to talk to me. They asked how I was turned."
"Damn." Corey says, his eyebrows raised.
"Did they just come to ask how you turned? Was that the only reason?" Sam asks.
I shake my head. "They said that I'm now in the clan, and that Penny has the right to kill me or banish me if she wants."
"What? Are you serious?" Corey asks as Kat gasps. I nod. "She's not ever going to, right?"
I shrug. "I haven't given her a reason to, and I don't think I want to." I say. "Besides, I was only told this a few hours ago." I glance at Sam, who was frowning at the ground. "Sam?" He looks up. "What's up?"
He shakes his head. "Was just thinking."
"About?"
He looks  up at me again, but with a small smile. "You sound like your girlfriend now."
I ignore his comment. "Sam, what's wrong?" I ask, wanting to know. Wanting to help him.
"I was just realizing that you're a vampire now." He says. "You're not aging anymore. We still are. You're still going to look like," He pauses, taking my appearance in. "Like you're 20 when we're all dead."
I stare at him, his words sinking in. He was right. I was going to live forever, looking like I'm fresh out of high school. They won't. They'll grow old and grey, and eventually die.
I look down. "I didn't choose this." I reply quietly.
"Brother, you kept asking Penelope to turn you. You wanted it." Corey says.
I look up at him, and then look away when he flinches. "I didn't think it through." I say. "I didn't think about the fact that I wouldn't aging anymore, or live forever. I didn't think about the fact that all I want is to drink blood now. I didn't know that it would change everything."
No one said anything. Then, "How about we change the subject?" Kat leans forward, and I give her a grateful smile.
"Yeah, I want to see some stuff." Corey says, standing up.
I raise an eyebrow at him. "See some stuff? What the hell do you mean by that?"
"Show us what you can do now." He replies. "Show us your fangs."
I don't move. I just sit there, statue still, staring at him like he was crazy. "Why?" I ask, dragging the word out.
"Because why not? You're the vampire of the friend group now." Jake replies. I roll my eyes, then open my mouth, showing my teeth and my exposed fangs. "They look a lot bigger than Penelope's."
"That's probably because she's tiny." I say, closing my mouth.
"Is that why you didn't feel her bite you before?" Kat asks.
I shrug. "Maybe."
"Does it hurt?" Jake asks. "The person you drink from, I mean."
"No." I answer. "Like Penny said, the venom makes the human high. They don't feel it." I narrow my eyes. "Why?"
Jake shrugs. "I hear it from Penelope, now you. You can't blame me for getting curious."
I scowl. "You want me to feed from you?"
