ENIOLA WINCED AS  Fareedah worked a wooden comb through the thick strands of her hair until her scalp tingled.

She was clamped between Fareedah's legs on the floor as she parted her hair from the forehead to the nape of her neck.

Fareedah poured  a tiny amount of coconut oil into her hands, rubbed them briskly together and massaged it over her hair.

Lara waited till Onome left the room before she turned back to them. "Something is up with this babe oo," she stated.

Eniola exhaled. "Abi she had a fight with Chidera? She was coming from her room that day, remember?"

"Onome went to the cinema with her yesterday, so I think they are cool." Fareedah explained, lifting a small section of hair and began braiding it tightly from the scalp.

"Maybe she has some personal issues she's dealing with," Lara shrugged.

"She doesn't even sit with me in class anymore." Eniola said, recalling the times she had tried to sit with her in class.

Eniola raised her hand to her head to inspect how much hair is left unweaved. "You've made them too tiny, Fareedah," she pouted.

Fareedah laughed, raking a comb through her hair with meticulous care. "Chill, it's almost done joor," she said.

Lara unplugged her phone from its charger and lay back on her bed. "Babes, Jide wants me to come to his barbecue party with you guys."

Eniola perked up in excitement. "Fareedah, you are going whether you like it or not," she declared, moving her head from her laps.

"Aba! Did I say I wasn't going?" she laughed.

Lara gave a half shrug. "Okay we are all going, but I don't know about Onome sha."

"I'll send her a text when I'm done with Eniola's hair," Fareedah offered.

Lara jumped off her bunk without using the ladder and walked over to her box. "Eniola, just to give you a heads up. Dayo might be at the party."

Eniola cringed at the mention of his name. She had successfully avoided him for days now and she didn't want her luck to run out and actually face him.

"I don't care if he's at the party. Why would I care?" she said, trying too hard to sound unaffected.

Fareedah looked between them with suspicious eyes. "What are you guys talking about?" she asks.

"Nothing, nothing" she said quickly, glaring at Lara to keep her mouth shut.

Fareedah huffed. "Okay ooo."

They all went quiet when Onome entered the room with a mountain of washed clothes slung over her shoulder. She slammed the door closed behind her with her foot and dropped the clothes on her bed.

Onome went about the room folding her clothes inside her suitcase before laying on her bed and plugged in her earpiece.

"Onome, are you okay?" Fareedah asked in a soft tone. With a sigh Onome removed her earpiece and sat up on the bed.

Onome frowned. "Why would I not be?" she asked, raising her eyebrow. The roommates looked at each other.

Lara moved closer to her. "It's just that you've been M.I.A lately. What is going on with you? she pressed.

Onome forced a tight smile. "It's nothing, I'm fine."

Eniola felt her anger rise. "You have everyone walking on eggshells whenever you're around. You won't talk to us and you act like you don't even know me in class. What is going on?" she asked.

Onome smiled. "I guess I've been a little on the edge these past few days, I'm sorry" she admitted.

"Whatever you are going through, just know that you can talk to us about anything." Eniola assured her.

"So you're coming to the BBQ?" Lara asked, playfully tapping her arm.

Onome lightened up at the mention of the party. "Sure, Dayo and the boys are going to be there," she said.

Eniola groaned inwardly. Why does he have to be everywhere?
