Keigo sat directly across from Mariko during the briefing. If the mood was lighter, he might've made funny faces to try and make her laugh during the meeting, but the severe atmosphere that had fallen over the room had him reconsider.

Once everyone was seated, Araya stood up and projected a diagram of Mineko's base on a whiteboard.

"We're gonna be split up into four teams. Pay attention 'cus none of this is on paper and I ain't repeating myself... Hawks and Mr. Compress are doing arrests; you guys are team Alpha. Toga and Twice are on evidence duty, team beta. And Mariko and Dabi are on target assassination, team Gamma. Shigaraki and Kurogi-san are the exit team, team Delta. Fujio and I will be on barrier and backup duty, team Omega. Everyone got that?" he asked looking around before continuing.

No one said anything, so he took a breath and nodded to continue. "Team Delta you're up first. Kurogiri will be creating portals so that teams Alpha, Beta, and Gamma can come in. Alpha will be coming in through here," he said pointing at a middle floor that marked the start of the laboratories. "You guys will be capturing all employees in the compound. Prioritize scientists and transporters." He tossed Keigo and Mr. Compress lanyards with an I.D card on them. Look for anyone with a blue, red, black I.D. Once those have been taken care of just start sending people outside and we'll deal with them. Team Beta will be sent here." Araya pointed towards the prisons and observation levels. "You guys have the simplest job, destroy everything. Don't read anything, don't look at anything, just destroy it all, I don't care how you do it as long as it doesn't leave a trace."

The raven-haired male turned to Mariko and Dabi. "Team Gamma, your only job is to find and kill Mineko Shimizu. I don't want a body; she needs to be incinerated. You will enter through the middle since we don't know where she will be and might need to cover a lot of ground before you find her."

Mariko felt a pair of eyes on her, but to her surprise, it wasn't Keigo. It was Dabi. The raven-haired male stared at her intently; his turquoise eyes burned into hers as he searched her expression for some sort of reaction. He knew Mineko meant a lot to her after all and was wondering whether she'd be able to do it. Mariko's expression, however, never changed. It remained startlingly neutral- almost relaxed- and he didn't know whether to be impressed or put off.

"Since our priority is killing Mineko Shimizu and destroying all of her research, we will be giving you guys limited time in the compound. We will be counting down two hours and you have to do what you can. That should be enough time to get everything done."

Toga raised her hand and Araya nodded at her to speak.

"What if we don't get to our portals before the countdown ends?" she asked.

Araya's expression grew grim as he nodded to Shigaraki and Kurogiri. "The portals will close and Shigaraki will be disintegrating the building. We won't be waiting for everyone to get out. If you're not out by then, then you will be labeled as dead or MIA depending on our intel," he told them.

The raven-haired male saw various reactions in his companion's faces that day. Toga, Twice and Mr. Compress were a mixture of depressed and worried- their eyes downcast as they accepted the conditions. Hawks and Kurogiri wore grim expressions, their eyes narrowed, and their lips pursed together as they silently disagreed with the plan. Those were the people who had never seriously considered the possibility of death before.

As his eyes swept the room, he noticed that Mariko, Dabi, Shigaraki, and Fujio's eyes revealed nothing. Their body language remained unchanged at the news. Those were the expressions of people who had faced death before and were unafraid to do so again. They had already accepted that possibility. Seeing his dear friend with that face made his heart clench uncomfortably; accepting death meant you were less careful.

He shook his head; even though it was a dangerous mission, the odds of survival were pretty good, and he knew that Mariko wouldn't allow herself to die or get hurt. She had Hawks; she had a reason to live, and the brunette had ridiculously good luck. "She'll be fine," he told himself.

After giving everyone a chance to digest the news, Araya cleared his throat. "The mission is scheduled to take place exactly three weeks from now while we make all the necessary preparations. So, try not to disappear before then so we don't have to change our plans."

And with that, the meeting was adjourned.
