It was late in the morning, but Mariko was still fast asleep and had no intention of waking up any time soon. She was exhausted after having worked another twelve-hour shift the night before. She was woken up, however, by the obnoxiously loud ringtone, Keigo had installed for himself on her phone.

"It's too early for this, what is it?" she asked, her voice slightly raspy with sleep.

"Mari I'm freaking out," he said suddenly. "Let me in."

Before he finished speaking, Mariko had briskly made her way to the front door. She was already nervous about what horrible news the blonde would bring her. "Is it something with the League of Villains? Is there a war about to break out," she wondered.

As soon as the door opened, Keigo barged in, feathers swirled around him like a whirlwind and his wings twitched constantly.

"What's wrong?" she asked, gesturing for him to sit on the couch.

He didn't sit down, instead opting to pace around the room.

Mariko stared at him in concern. She had never seen her friend so worried about something and the feeling was beginning to seep into her as well, causing her own anxiety level to climb.

"I have a meeting with Endeavor-san today and I totally don't know what to do!" he exclaimed running a hand through his hair. His gold eyes burned into her with severity before he continued to pace around the room in a near panic.

"Is that it?" she asked, confused. She didn't think his level of reaction was appropriate for the situation. If it hadn't been for his apparent emotional state, she would've been angry at him for waking her up over such a trivial matter. "It's actually kind of funny seeing him like this," she thought amusedly.

"What do you mean is that it?" he asked mockingly. "It's a meeting with Endeavor! I've been his fan since I was a kid! I'm asking him to do something huge I can't mess this up!" he exclaimed.

Listening to him freak out, she couldn't hold back anymore and burst out laughing.

Her reaction caught the blonde completely off guard (as they often seemed to) and he stopped pacing for a moment to stare at her. It was the first time he'd really seen her laugh and the sound lifted his spirits considerably. It was a light, airy sound that seemed to clear away his nervousness like a fresh breath of air. "She's adorable," he thought, exhaling a calming breath. "What's so funny?" he asked, making a failed attempt to sound annoyed.

Even after her laughter died down, her cobalt eyes still glittered with amusement when they met his. It was a pleasant change considering her usual expression was one of annoyance towards him.

"Sorry," she said smiling, "It's just that... you're usually so upbeat and confident... seeing you freak out like this is so out of character I couldn't help but laugh!" she exclaimed. They both knew she didn't really feel bad for laughing though.

"That doesn't make me feel better in the lightest Kid," he lied. It was early in the morning and he'd already gotten her to smile at him and he heard her laugh for the first time. How could he not be happy now?

Mariko walked in front of him, her presence helping to calm him down. "Take a breath," she instructed.

Keigo did as he was told and inhaled deeply.

"Let it out," she continued.

He exhaled.

"Again."
