"Thanks for looking after her today. Sorry it was so last minute," Hayato said rubbing his neck sheepishly.

She's a real good kid. It was no trouble at all," Hawks said.

Mariko nodded in agreement, "You know she's always welcome."

Hayato nodded gratefully and turned to his daughter, "Mariko and Hawks are gonna leave now. Say bye," he instructed.

Ayuri beamed at them, "Bye-bye!" she exclaimed.

Mariko gave the girl a quick hug while Hawks ruffled her hair.

"Let's go see how grandpas doing now okay?" her father asked, taking her hand. The blonde nodded in agreement and followed him inside the building after waving them goodbye one last time.

It was only a few minutes' walk from the apartment building, and when the pair returned home they realized the apartment felt empty for some reason.

"It's quiet now," Keigo pointed out.

She nodded, "It always seems like that after she visits," she explained kicking her shoes off and hanging up her coat.

The blonde followed in suit and went into the bedroom where Mariko was face planting into her mattress. "Mind if I join you?" he asked.

The brunette let out a random, unintelligible sound which he took as a "yes" and face planted right next to her. He only stayed that way for a minute though before turning on his side and stretching his wings out behind him as he pulled Mariko into his chest.

Mariko responded immediately and latched her arms around his waist and hooked a leg around his. She sighed contentedly, breathing him in slightly as he began to run his fingers through her hair.

"Did you have fun today?" he asked, his voice just above a whisper.

She nodded. "I did. Lot's.... I kind of wish it had been just us though," she admitted.

A tiny smile played at his lips as he hummed in agreement. It'd been great getting to meet Ayuri, she was a really sweet kid, but he too had been looking forward to spending some time alone with his girlfriend. "Me too."

She giggled a bit; the universe's timing was always terrible to them. "Sorry we had to bring her along. Did you have to improvise a lot?" she asked.

"Don't be, she's a cutie. It was nice seeing you act like a mom. I had to change a couple of things. I'd originally planned on waking you up with breakfast in bed for one thing."

"Oh, that would've been a nice change. What else?" she hummed.

"Well after we'd stay in bed till noon cuddling n stuff then go to the park. I was gonna take you ice skating and completely show you up."

The brunette let out a short laugh. "How do you know you were gonna show me up? For all you know I could've been a world-class skater in the Olympics and would've left you in the dust," she countered.

"I'm pretty confident you can't skate as well as I can. I'm pretty good."

Mariko sighed and rolled her eyes but didn't contradict him. "If you say so."

"I do say so. Anyways... after we froze our asses off we were gonna fly back here and change into fancy clothes cus I booked us a dinner reservation at Tainari."

"The place with the really nice city view?" she asked.

Keigo nodded, "Don't sweat it though I was thinking of canceling anyways. I wasn't sure if it was really your scene." Getting the reservation hadn't been very difficult. As soon as he'd given his name they'd offered him the best table and his pick of the times. At first, he'd been looking forward to it, the food and atmosphere were good, and he wanted to share that with her. After looking after Ayuri most of the day though he felt a bit drained. Spending the rest of the afternoon cuddling with Mariko sounded infinitely more appealing now. The restaurant would always be there anyway.

Mariko hugged him tighter, "Let's go there next time." She didn't mind dressing up once in a while and she could hear it in his tone of voice that he'd been looking forward to it. She was willing to go just about anywhere if it made him happy.

"Really?" he asked.

"Mhm."

"Alright, we'll do that next then," he sighed.

There was a silence for a little while before she broke it by letting out a small giggle.

Keigo looked down at her, wondering what was so funny. "What?" he asked.

The brunette shook her head, "Nothing. I was just thinking of what your reaction would be if Araya third-wheeled us next time."

He huffed in annoyance and shifted her in his arms. "Hell no. At least Ayuri was cute and I got to see you act like a mom. Sosa would just be a dick the whole time and probably try to take you away from me."

Mariko didn't laugh at the slight jab towards her best friend. Instead, she'd focused on the small detail of how he'd enjoyed seeing her act motherly. For some reason, it sent nervous butterflies to her stomach. "Kei..." she started, her voice taking on an unusually shy tone.

"Hm?"

"How do you feel about kids?" she asked.

The male stilled around her. He honestly hadn't thought about it much in the past. Since he hadn't had the best parent influence growing up, he didn't really consider himself "Father material" he wouldn't even know the first thing about caring for a child. Seeing his girlfriend act like that with Ayuri made him wonder though. For the first time, he'd imagined what it would be like if they had a kid- the best parts of him and Mariko coming together to form a perfect tiny human. Seeing her pregnant with his child, holding their baby, and watching him or her grow up. As he toyed with the idea, he quickly found himself falling in love with it.

Noting his silence, Mariko backtracked. They'd only been dating for two months; it was way too early to start asking questions like that. "Sorry I shouldn't've-"

"I want kids," he stated firmly. If it was with her, he definitely wanted kids.

The brunette quieted, a bit surprised by how deliberate his answer had been.

He looked down at her, wondering if she'd been hoping he'd say he didn't want any. "And you?" he asked softly.

She nodded, burying her head in his chest to hide her rosy cheeks. "In the future yeah."

Keigo closed his eyes and smiled softly. "Think we could have a family one day?" he asked, his voice almost inaudible. He was starting to feel sleepy now, and the pillow talk made it significantly easier to ask questions he probably wouldn't think of when he was awake and completely aware of his surroundings.

"I'd like to... one day."  She did. She could absolutely see herself raising a family with him. The idea didn't scare her in the slightest. Thinking back on what Ayuri had said at lunch though, she could only hope that she would live long enough to realize that dream.

The male pressed a kiss to the top of her head- an action that pulled her out of her thoughts before she could drown in them once again. He sighed contentedly and tugged her impossibly closer to him. Feeling her heart thudding against her chest, he allowed the steady rhythm to lull him to sleep.
