WARNING: MENTIONS OF GUNS, BLOOD, DEATH, AND PANIC ATTACKS IN THIS CHAPTER

"Mari, don't do this," she pleaded. "This is my life's work! You should come with me! Can you imagine? The power to do whatever you wanted Mari. I could give it to you. We could be Gods!" Mineko exclaimed. Her breathing became labored, the prospect of becoming an all-powerful being exciting her.

I stared at her, eyes wide. What's going on? Why am I seeing this? Hadn't I... killed her...already? My chest hurt seeing her like this again, spouting nonsense about becoming a god... but no god would have such a manic look in their eyes.

"No, Mine...I don't want to be a god. I just want you to stop doing all of this. Burn it. Throw it all away. Please" I implored.

Her eyes widened, and she looked at me like I had just slapped her. "You..." she started, she shook with rage. "You said we were SISTERS!" she shouted. "I've been with you and taking care of you since you were a goddamn child who couldn't fend for herself! YOU'D BE DEAD WITHOUT ME! How many times have I risked my life to save yours and this... THIS IS HOW YOU REPAY ME?"

I flinched as a giant wave of fire roared around her. Even though the fire didn't bother Mineko, the heat was blistering against my skin and the smell of blood and burning flesh invaded my nose. I couldn't stay here. If I did I would die. I didn't want to leave her though. "Come back with me... you need help. This isn't right Mine. Please," I asked again.

She scoffed in disgust. "I don't need help. I'd rather you fucking kill me than go with you, traitor."

My chest twisted at her words, my heart and lungs felt like they were being crushed. Whether it was from her words or the smoke choking me I didn't know. My eyes burned with tears as I raised my gun, the barrel aimed straight at her heart. I panicked as my hands shook slightly. It was the first time I trembled before killing someone. The world faded into black, for a moment nothing existed except for the sound of the shot ringing in my ears.

When the world came back into focus, I couldn't hear anything. All I could do was stare at Mineko as she fell to her knees in front of me. She wasn't a grown woman anymore. She was a child again, blood bubbled and spilled out of her mouth slightly as she stared at me in surprise. Her blue eyes lacked the insanity they'd held just moments before, now they showed nothing but sadness.

I was suffocating as I stumbled over and sunk to my knees beside her.

"M-Mari..." she gasped, "Why?"

"I couldn't let you kill anyone else... I'm so sorry," I said, tears spilling down my face.

She looked up at me, parting her lips to say something, but I never got to hear what she wanted to say. Her eyes turned glassy and her chest stopped moving.

Mariko woke up, struggling to breathe. The room felt entirely too large and it became impossible for her to bring her breathing back to normal. She choked back a sob, she'd already been crying as she'd remembered Mineko Shimizu's death, though that wasn't exactly how it had happened. She should've known she'd have a nightmare after the conversation they had. It felt like someone had taken her heart and was squeezing it as hard as they could.

She hadn't even realized she'd been reaching for her phone until after she'd dialed his number.

"Mari? It's literally three a.m what the hel-?" Keigo asked drowsily. Even though she was his best friend, and he was usually ecstatic when she called him for once, three a.m. wasn't the time to do so. Like every other normal person, he'd been sleeping and was rather irritated that the brunette had called him.
