The warm air hit my face, the crackling of the wood underneath the bed of flames oddly soothing - distracting one from the relentless rain outside.

It had certainly picked up within the past hour, the quickly falling drops of water hitting the glass in a melancholic symphony of sorts.

My room was dim, lit only by the fireplace that brought a gentle wave a heat throughout the area - painting it in a calming, orangeish-yellow glow.

I draw the edges of a silken robe closer, covering my nightgown as I sat on my knees - huddled near the fireplace while also wrapped in a fuzzy blanket.

Kate sat behind me, humming a gentle tune to herself as her fingers teased the darkened and almost dry strands of my (h/c) hair - which were entwined in the loose braid she was crafting with gentle hands, and the sullen growl of not-too distant thunder made me shiver.

"Still cold?" The blonde haired female speaks up, her gaze on my profile as she picks up a thin, black ribbon from her lap and ties it around the ends of my hair, securing the strands in place and I shake my head, watching the edge of the dancing flames with a small and uneasy smile.

"I'm alright." I respond kindly, rising to my feet.

I glance at the window as footsteps shuffle around the room and Kate stands by my side, watching my features with careful eyes.

Marion was leaning over the bed, smoothing down the extra blanket she had laid across its surface moments prior, her hands swiping across the soft material in long motions before she straightens and fixes her hair.

"Child." She calls to me and a flash of light illuminates the darkened sky outside the castle's walls and windows with a bright white-blue hue, being followed moments later by another deep growl that rolled over the hills.

I exhale, my gaze lingering on the window.

"(Y/n), sweetie, are you alright?" Marion asks.

I nod slowly, shedding the blanket from my shoulders before draping it over my arm.

"I'm fine." I breathe, turning as I walk over to the couch, yet the feeling of eyes follow me there.

Marion's expression softens into one of motherly care, her hands resting by her abdomen as she places pieces together in her mind - and Kate glances in her direction.
"My dear child...are you frightened of lightning?" She asks and Kate perks up, stepping closer to me.

"If you want, you can write another letter, one to your family- get your mind off it." Kate smiles and I couldn't help but chuckle at her seemingly endless optimism.

I drape the blanket over the arm of the couch, my back still facing the two females.
"It's not the lightning per-say, it's just..." my knuckles trace the soft fabric before I turn, thinking of what to say as I play with my fingers. "well, I'm not too scared of lightning- my family and I used to watch it from inside on stormy nights,"
I smile at the thought, but it doesn't last long and quickly falters.
"it's more the thunder that's unnerving to me."
I walk forward, stopping by Marion, who places a hand on my shoulder and I rock back on my heels.
"But I'm alright. Would you two like to watch the storm with me?" I smile along with the two females - Marion, who nods and I clear my throat as I walk over to the bed.

"Kate?" Marion chimes and the blonde awkwardly chuckles, having pulled herself from her thoughts as she plays with her fingers.

"Maybe in a moment," she responds, "I need to go check on Adelaide first."

The blonde gives Marion and I a quick curtsy before shuffling to the door, a section of her uniform in her hand as she exits, leaving Marion and I alone.
