Dead Calm 1 Part 37

"You should just bag work for today and come with us," JJ said as Coral rinsed the bars of gold in the cold water from the kitchen sink.  

"JJ, I told you I can't," she replied, "This is my first shift since before that stupid storm.  Despite finding the gold we need money now."

Huffing he rolled his eyes before taking the bars of gold from her, "Fine you responsible person you," he said as they headed outside where the others were.

"Kie, I hope this works," JJ said handing her the three bars of gold, "We can't pawn it with a giant wheat symbol on it," he told her.

"It's gonna work," she told him, holding up a small blow torch.

Once the gold was melted down into a large slab the group took off to drop Coral off at The Wreck and then head down to the pawn shop.

Hopping out of the van she waved at her friends as JJ walked her to the door of the restaurant, "We'll be back after your shift," he told her, kissing her. 

"Okay, be a good liar," she teased as he was the one that would be doing the talking at the pawn shop.

"Come on Romeo!" John B yelled from the driver's seat.

Laughing Coral reached up and kissed him one last time before he ran back to the van and she headed inside for her shift.  Greeting Mike behind the bar she went and got her apron and ordering pad from her locker in the back before coming out and getting to work.

She'd just dropped off an order to one of her tables when she turned to go back to the bar and stopped dead at the sight of Ward Cameron walking into the restaurant.  

"Coralina," he greeted as he approached her.  "Mr. Cameron," she returned with a small smile.
