"GETTING INTO A-TROUPE
is the best. I mean, I get another year to go to Regionals and to be with my friends."

10 hours before

When looking at the list, I see that the eleven dancers are West, Eldon, Emily, Michelle, Stephanie, Daniel, Chloe, Me, James, Riley, and Tiffany. Unfortunately, that meant Giselle didn't make it. Looking at Giselle, I can tell she is devastated. I mean, Michelle was most likely the one to take her spot, but maybe that will push Giselle even more.

"Being in A-Troupe is an honour because you have to work for it and you have to work to stay in it."

I went to see Chloe and hug her; this was her first year being on A-Troupe, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen in the future. She's my ballet duet partner; we work so well together. Fingers crossed that we get a duet together.

Right now, me, West, and Daniel are congratulating Michelle on making the team. It's not everyday that someone just shows up out of nowhere and gets to audition; usually, you have to be a part of The Next Step company.

"Can I just talk to Michelle alone for a second?" Emily asks us, and I can just sense the drama. Emily is known for drama, especially when she doesn't get her way, and considering Michelle is new, it'll affect Emily's year. One thing's for sure: She's going to make Michelle's year a living nightmare.

"Yo, where's Michelle at?" James asks, and I look around and see no Michelle. "I don't know, but she's pretty late for her first day." Emily says in response, I narrow my eyes at her. Something's not adding up; why would Emily care if Michelle was late?

"All right dancers, gather around. Before we get started. I have a question: has anyone seen Michelle?" Chris asks us. "She's pretty late for her first day, though." Emily says, I don't know what trick Emily has up her sleeve, but I know for a fact the E-Girls are a part of it.

"All right, so Ms. Kate—Oh?" Chris stops what he's saying as he notices Michelle walking in. We all turn our heads to face her. I can sense a slight tension in the room, but it doesn't match how awkward this situation is.

"I'm so sorry. I got lost." Michelle explains. "I know you're new, but this cannot happen again." Kate warns. "Ever again." Emily chirps in. I really hope she's not the dance captain, or she will destroy our team for good.

"It's a new dance year, so that means it's time to pick a dance captain." Kate says. "Well, I guess you should just vote and get it over with." I'm honestly quite shocked that Emily is just taking this as if she actually deserves it.

"Actually, we're doing it a bit different this year."

"As soon as Kate says we're getting a new dance captain, I get anxious."

"We wanna see what else is out there, and the dancer we have in mind was actually Noelle." Chris says, I'm shocked why I'm not fit for dance captain. "No. No thank you." "No! No, thank you. You see, she doesn't even want to do it." Emily sneers.

"Being dance captain is a huge responsibility. I'm just not looking to be the leader."

Listen, this is my dance studio, and I decide what's best for A-troupe. So Noelle, are you going to audition to be dance captain?" "I-" I stutter. I'm not sure if I'm ready; being dance captain is a big job, and I know Emily is going to kill me.

"Would you like to help this team out? Would you like to be part of A-Troupe still?" "Yeah!" I say in a heartbeat. "Yes? Yes, perfect. Great. Emily?" "Oh yeah." "Perfect." Just great. Now I have to audition for dance captain against Emily.

"I'm home!" I yell once I reach the inside of the house. I hear Richelle running down the stairs. "Hey, Noll! How was dance?" She asks from the stairs. "You'll never guess what happened." "What?" "I'm auditioning for dance captain." "That's amazing!"

Yeah, I guess, but I'm so nervous; I've never tested Emily, and here I am now testing her captaincy." I say quickly. "You'll do great; you're one of the best dancers I've seen. I believe in you." Richelle says patting my shoulder.

Hearing what Richelle said definitely calmed me down. I should just dance, and no matter what, I tried my best. So Emily, bring it on.
