I STAND BEHIND STAGE AS WE
watch LODs small group dance. They definitely live up to their alternative name, Ladies of Destruction.

"LODs dance is crazy good. It's a little scary, obviously, but at the same time it's kind of motivating."

Soon enough, LOD and their opponents are both on stage awaiting the decision. "And the team moving on to the duet round is Life of Dance." The group nods and walking off stage, not bothering to acknowledge anyone.

I'm not surprised by LODs win. When they dance, they're so in sync and are flawless with their movements. It almost makes you feel bad for any team they have to face.

I look up at James, seeing his eyes focused on the stage, but it's clear his mind is somewhere else. "Are you okay? " I ask, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Hmm." He hums, looking between me and the stage. "You seem a little lost in your own world." I tell him, but he can barely keep his eyes on me.

"Nah, I'm good." He reassures me. "You promise?" I ask him, talking a step forward. "Just a lot on my mind right now." He says, looking down and giving me a smile.

"Will you ever tell me what's going on in that head of yours?" I ask, while wrapping my arms around his midsection. "Don't even worry about it." He smirks, kissing the top of my head.

The last time The Next Step made it to Nationals was 10 years ago, and they lost. If we win, then it'd be a huge milestone for the studio.

The only thing is that a lot of these small groups are lyrical and contemporary, showing a great amount of technique. The boys are going to have to execute the hip-hop dance better than any rehearsal for us to move on.

"West is waiting for you guys in the lobby." Emily tells the boys beside me. I get out of my seat, standing beside Emily as they rush out. "Good luck." I tell them before me and Emily take their seats, sitting closer to Phoebe.

It was now Joanne Chapman's turn. Their dance is about struggling and trying to reach the top. They have this prop of a black ramp in the back centre, using it as much as they can. Joanne Chapman has faced LOD in the finals last year and lost. This year it's looking like they've come back for revenge.

"How nervous do you guys think the boys are?" Giselle asks. Emily huffs, "Pretty nervous." Everyone agrees. I refrain from telling them about James because I'm not 100% sure what's going on in his head to begin with.

"Guys I'll be back." I excuse myself, leaving the auditorium to find the boys. I end up finding them at the cafe just talking.

"So, did you all plan to have a bite and chat it up?" I ask, walking up to them. "Well, James wants to put the B-twist in our group. "Okay, listen, you're on in 30 minutes. You need to get ready." I tell them as they get up, heading to the dressing room.
