I STOOD IN CULTURE SHOCK WITH Emily and Riley as we looked at the music options. "Hey, um, how's the list going with James?" Emily asks me. "Um, actually, really well. I mean, he's taking it seriously, which never happens." I explain.
"Yeah, that is a first." Emily says flipping through a magazine. "Oh, shut it." "Speaking over lover boy," Riley says, nodding her head over to James. "Noelle," James calls, trying to be as subtle as possible. "Talk later." I tell the sisters before taking a seat in front of James.
"What's up?" I ask. He drums against the table before pointing at me. "I don't want to do number nine. You wanna switch that?" He asks, giving me a boyish grin.
"You've had your learner's permit forever. Don't you wanna take me on a real date in a car instead of a bus?" I ask, flashing him a cheeky smile. James sighs. "Fine, I'll get my driver's license. Fine." He groans out.
"So, you wanna hangout?" He asks, changing the topic. I click my tongue. "You see, that list isn't done. Sorry." I smirk. "Oh yeah, okay cool. See you later then." He says with sass before leaving.
"It's okay to miss all of me, James. Just gotta finish the list."

After talking to James, he had so kindly begged me to go with him to his driver's test. I don't know if it's to prove to me he did it or he's scared because as we stand in the lot, all he's doing is pacing.
"Are you okay?" I question as he walks up to me. "Yeah," he shrugs me off. "My, my, is the James nervous." I point out, crossing my arms over my chest. "No, I'm, I'm, I'm fine." He stutters before pacing again.
"Oh, my goodness, James is actually nervous." I tease as he rushes towards me with an accusing finger. "Okay, you should have seen the instructor. He was strict, and he didn't like me either. He's putting his finger in my face like this. Don't lean on the car, he's not gonna like that," James rants worriedly, pulling me off the car.
"Okay, you need to calm down and be the James I know, and you'll be fine." I reassure him. "Um, no, that's what got me in trouble last time." He explains.
I sigh, "Okay, how about this? If you pass your test, then I will pay for you to take me to the drive-in movies." I clasp my hands together.
"Whoever James is nervous, I know that a little motivation goes a long way."
"Shake on it." He responds, placing a hand out for me to shake. "Okay listen, hey listen. It's almost time, so just stay calm, stay focused. Remember where I told you to keep your hands?" James' mom asks her son.
"To myself." James answers, making my eyebrows raise in amusement. "Ten and two James. Keep your hands at ten and two." James' mom explains as we continue to give him advice. "Don't even worry about it." I mock him as he jokingly sizes me up as I push him away.
"Is it him?" I ask pointing to the car that pulled up. "He seems nice." I declare as I observe the man. "You failed." The man says out loud. "It is now illegal for you to operate this motor vehicle. Please leave your keys in the cup holder." The man says.
"Never mind." I say, looking at Deborah. "Hey meat, you remember me from yesterday? I was the nightmare you had during the day while you were still awake." The man speaks, making me internally cringe.
"Is this your mother?" He asks. "Uh, this is my mom, and this is my girlfriend," James says before I can stop him, yet part of me knew I wouldn't, anyway.
"It's not a great idea to nauseate me before I administer the exam." The guy says towards James before looking at me and Deborah. "I banish you." He orders.
"Uh, should we leave?" Deborah asks. "You already should be gone. I've banished you." He explains as James' mom pulls me away.
"I thought James was joking when he said the driving instructor was a little bit crazy, but, uh, yeah, he's probably the scariest person I've seen."
Are you standing on the yellow line?" The instructor asks with his back towards us. "Yeah." We respond awkwardly. "Step back. One further please." He orders until we're off the line.
"We're gonna begin by examining the exterior of our vehicle. As we went through yesterday, kick the tire and tell me how much PSI is in that tire." He instructs. "Kick it?" James asks, unsure. "Kick it." The man confirms.
James goes forward and kicks it hard, and groans in pain. It's really hard not to laugh. "Is that funny?" The instructor asks me. "No." I cover my laugh with a cough.
"Not funny, no. Not funny at all. Totally serious."

Turns out James was able to actually get in the car as he slowly makes his way back to the lot with music blaring. They park and James slowly exists.
"I'm a little nervous because I don't know how James did. I mean, the car's still intact, so that's a good sign."
"Okay, listen. Do you think we should go?" Deborah asks me as we watch James lean against the car, hiding his face. "Yeah, I mean, I guess the test is over." I answer and slowly we walk over to James, who doesn't look very pleased.
"How did he do?" I asked the instructor nervously. "Well, to use the phrase that there is no doubt familiar to you. Your son has failed. He's one of the worst drivers I've seen. It'll be two years before he's allowed to take the test again." The guy goes on as my jaw drops.
"How are we supposed to wait two years to get his driver's license?"
And suddenly, James starts laughing. "You are so annoying." I mutter as the instructor tells us he passed before I give him a hug.

Later that night, Talia asked us to show up at Michelle's debate to see if us being there would help us get her back. And throughout the debate, she truly looks like she's enjoying herself and, of course, she won. As we go to congratulate her, she asks us, "Why are you here?"
"We all came to try and convince you to come back to dance." Talia explains as we all express how much we miss her, but when she denies us, I know she's not coming back soon.
I sigh, leaning into James as he wraps an arm around me. "We'll get her back," James whispers to me, placing a kiss on my forehead.

A/n: An update within the same week! I told you guys that I'd be updating more frequently. Anyways the ending was just my own little sprinkle on top. And I say that because even though they aren't together or the list isn't complete, I still want them ti have their moments. like I said before Noelle's love language is physical touch.
