I WALKED INTO STUDIO A
little bit after everyone else, but that didn't seem to matter since Daniel was doing a solo with everyone watching. Looking at Daniel, I could see no emotion, and it was probably part of the reason he didn't get the solo.

"Oh, here she comes. Moment of truth!" Emily and West say at the same time. "Are you guys talking about me?" Kate says as we continue to joke with her. I look over to see James' reaction, but he's looking right back at me.

"This is a friend thing. This is what friends do."

"Okay, here's the deal: we have a few J-Troupe members who are absolutely exceptional, and I would love for you guys to mentor them and help them become better dancers." Kate explains.

"So you already picked them?" Emily's asks. "Yeah, I've already chosen them. So if you guys want to go get your stuff, they'll actually come back and meet you at the studio." Kate says.

The four of us go to get our stuff, leaving Daniel behind. I wonder if Kate partnered me with Richelle since we're sisters.

It turns out my partner is actually Noah, which I have no problem with. I have always seen a lot of potential in him, and he has so much to learn, especially from me.

"Before we get started, I wanna know what you want to learn by the end of the day." I ask him, clasping my hands together. "I guess I want to learn how to do more pirouettes like you and Eldon, but also how to be a leader when needed." Noah tells me with a shy look.

For a talented kid, he does hide his outgoing personality, and when wanting to become a leader, you have to show all your emotions and let people agree with you. "I can help you with that, but first let me explain the key to doing pirouettes." I tell him, smiling.

I get into position as Noah follows my lead. "The first thing you should know is that your head should be stretched and that you should have your eyes focused on something and never move from that object." I explain to him as he nods in agreement.

"You also need to balance your shoulders; if one is pushed down, then it won't be complete. Next, don't be in your mind too much. One of the main reasons you're not getting your goal is because too much thought is going on in there." I tell him while pointing to his head.

"Well then, what do I think about? 'Cause lately all I think about is how my highest isn't enough for A-Troupe." Noah rushes out. I give Noah a look of sympathy for such a talented kid; he has a lot on his mind, and most of the thoughts aren't positive. "You focus on your goal. Determination is key for A-Troupe." I say.

I continue to explain and show him how to do it until we get to the end. "So, what did you learn?" I ask him, resting my hands on my hips. "You need a focus spot, balanced shoulders, and clear head space." Noah answers.

I give him a bright smile. "Now let's get this leader out of you." I say when I notice we're the only ones in Studio A, and everyone is probably headed to the music room for Josh.

When me and Noah get to the doors of the music room, I see Emily and Richelle standing at the entrance while James and Josh are on the drums, and Giselle is doing acro along with Becca. "Hey." I greet Emily, placing a hand on Emily's shoulder and giving her a smile.

Emily gives me a smile before looking at Richelle. "All right, I want you to try and get people's attention." Emily tells my younger sister, but I can tell Noah's also taking some pointers. "Hey everybody! Hey everybody! Hello!" Richelle yells out, but no one stops.

While Emily explained what Richelle was doing wrong, I stared at James. He was so in tune with music, something he enjoys so deeply. I could help but smile at his skills— "Hey everyone, Emily has an announcement." Noah calls out, making everyone stop and look at us, even James, which causes us to lock eyes.

"Thank you, Noah. I just wanted to tell you what an amazing job you're doing, and because of that, I figured we could take a fifteen-minute break at the Culture Shock. What do you think?" Emily asks with her hands together.

"Yes." James responded softly, taking his eyes off me. We all leave with Emily, and I lead everyone. "For someone who says they're only friends, you seem to be spiralling." Emily says, giving me a pointed look as I glare back at her.

At Culture Shock, everyone is just winding down, and I want to make sure Noah is able to know when to be a leader, even if Emily was telling him everything while I was 'busy'.

"You did good today, Noelle." Noah complements me. "Really, how so?" I raise an eyebrow at him. "You showed me how to control my thoughts and that you have to live in the moment, and that'll lead you to take certain actions with your teammates." Noah explained, causing me to chuckle.

"You sure Emily didn't teach you all that?" I ask, crossing my arms. "Just take what I'm giving." He mumbles as I laugh.

After a long day, we were finally able to all meet up at the studio. "I have some sad news, unfortunately." Kate says walking to the front. "Daniel has decided to leave The Next Step and join Chris' new studio, Superstar Dance." Kate announces. How could he? "Chris offered him the National Solo; he took it." Kate explains.

"Well, now we're one dancer short." West says. "I know, I've already submitted the list of names to Nationals; we can't add anyone." Kate explains.

"Daniel was selfish, and now if we lose one more dancer, we have no alternates, which means if someone got hurt, we'd have to disqualify."
