I STOOD ON THE NATIONALS
stage with the rest of the team as we warmed up and waited to start rehearsals.

Since Michelle was able to beat Elite in the fourth round, it moves The Next Up to the semiformal round where we have to go against Joanne Chapman.

For the longest time since I was a kid, Joanne Chapman's has been one of the best dance schools to get into. However, getting in was nearly impossible because of their high expectations from all ages.

The less stressful thing is that we don't have to go against LOD yet, so we have time to practise and rehearse some more.

"Hey guys! Just so you know, we have around ten more minutes on the stage, so make sure you're in the zone, alright?" Emily says from the judges' tables as West runs down towards her.

West and Emily, I kind of love it.

A couple of us sat in the auditorium to watch CDC and LOD go up against each other before it was our turn.

Last year CDC lost in the fourth round but here they are as one of the four teams lasting.

"Guys, how are they doing?" Giselle asks, coming down the stairs and taking a seat in front of me. "Um, they're amazing." Eldon says, leaning closer to Giselle, so he's not too loud.

If I weren't aware of CDC's dance background, I would think they've done this before, but knowing that this is their first time in the semifinals as well, it makes me proud seeing studios work hard for where they are.

Their dance is a boy acting as a Charlie Chaplin character who in the beginning is super happy and he gives followers to all the dancers in black to bring them light.

The piece is contemporary for a character who's usually so happy, but as he gives these flowers to the ones being sad, he becomes sad, which causes them to all come together and be one happy group.

It's a beautiful piece, but I don't know if it's enough to beat LOD.

It was now LOD's turn and they've definitely taken a more upbeat and engaging. They use these red sticks to enhance the sound and story.

Their concept is that one breaks free, and it's the rest of the group's job to bring them back. Using sonography is one of the hardest things to accomplish and the fact that they're doing it so flawlessly makes me nervous.

"I can only imagine the fear CDC is probably feeling."

Their tricks and movements are in sync. There are no mistakes. It's like they're a group of robots programmed to do the same thing.

"The first of two dance troupes in the finals is Life Of Dance." They announce as the winning troupe stays still. Eldon taps my shoulder, signaling us to head backstage.
